Crimping Spark Wire Terminal at Coill
« on: August 03, 2020, 12:58:58 PM »
What is the correct way to fit or crimp the new coil side terminal onto a new spark plug wire on a V7 Stone small block?  I’m assuming I need a crimping tool, but what kind?  Anyone have a picture of what the finished product should look like?   Should I solder this?  Epoxy?  Tips?

The terminal looks this.  I’ve confirmed that the small end on the left with the little circlip snaps into some fitting inside the coil.

Thanks.

The crimp tool would be best but for a one of job I just made a very quick press tool.

I cut the outer back far enough to allow the copper core to be long enough to do a return / horse shoe inside the terminal body and flattened to get a good compression and hopefully good conductance.

This is a distributor bike so copper core was my first choice, with electronic ignition bikes some folk prefer carbon core... There are a few choices as far as core material.

Concept is pretty much the same that I use with a set I got from Accell a few decades ago.. Just two plates in there case. Simple and cant break.  Sadly I could not find them when I did my last set..

I bought this one last year, and although it's made of some sort of plastic, it has worked very well.

That little one looks cool. But how wide is it? The OP needs to crimp two places it looks like?

Over 1" wide. SmithSwede's terminal only gets crimped one place.

Not very good reviews on Amazon - lots of "broke on the first use" comments - but I've used mine to crimp over a dozen terminals and it's worked perfectly well.

Got it, looked like two places and you bend the wire for the curve. It's just like a normal 90 degree connector.

Thank you!
