Hoka Hey Challenge
« on: August 08, 2020, 02:56:33 PM »
I’ve got a friend doing his third ride in the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge.  “Chicken Joe” Rider #842.   They start tomorrow out of Panama City, Florida, and will ride about 10,000 miles on a cross-country route that is as yet undisclosed.

En route to the starting point, he’s had to stop at three different dealers to get an oil leak fixed on the Harley.   Hmmm.

Here’s the website in case anyone else is interested.

You can track the riders with the following fleet tracker.

I know a guy that has done a couple of these on his Harley.  He was in his mid 70’s at the time.  Some seriously hard core riding.

One was Key West to somewhere in Alaska.  He rode from NJ to Key West for the start, then back to NJ after finishing in Alaska!  Isn’t it sponsored by Harley?

That's pretty interesting.   It's Harley/Indian/Victory only, and the photos are all eagles, vests, beanies, and patches, BUT as Cam said, if you finished this thing it would be some seriously hard-core riding.

They track you the whole way so they know if you've exceeded the speed limit to "catch up", ANY ticket from the cops disqualifies you, no electronic aids like GPS are allowed, and the rules are pretty tight, so it would be a real rider that finished clean.

I'd love to be at the start and see what the riders are wearing for gear when they take off.   Are there guys really in vests and jeans and beanies and wrap-around sunglasses, or are they in full 'Stich/Rukka/KLIM gear with full helmets?    I don't see how you could take the rain, hail, and June bugs in a T-shirt, but maybe they do.

Interesting to say the least.

I shipped out some covers two weeks ago to a few competitors in that event.  HARD core riders!

I think you'd want really hard tires on your motorcycle.  And certainly preplan some maintenance stops.
