Stelvio cast wheels

So, I’m wondering if many have issues with leaky Stelvio wire rims. Since I really like my 2017 and may keep it for a long time, maybe it’s not a bad idea to buy a set of cast wheels  - black or silver and put them away for the future. Currently, they cost $650 for a set. Not a bad price for authentic Guzzi rims and will only go up . It seems that many long term owners have switched to the cast wheels. Thoughts?

If the stock wheels begin to leak you can always remove the spoke clean the seat and replace the o-ring(s) as needed to get then to reseal. $600 while inexpensive for wheels is a waste to have them incase. Now if you were mounting up tires to swap the wheels out for different riding or burning off old tires locally then yes get another set of wheels.

I put the cast wheels on my Stelvio years ago simply because I liked them. They were considerably more expensive then. I never had trouble with the spoked wheels though. If you like them, go for it.

Rear wheel on my 2013 Stelvio had multiple leaks around the spokes, even after I had a pro reseat all the spokes.  I did the marine adhesive and tape.  7000 miles and a tire change later no problems yet.  The front wheel, oddly enough, never a problem.  Try it and see how your results are--stay tubeless and save money (more Guzzi content).

Another option is to buy the cast wheels and recover what you can by selling the wire ones. Consider your riding as well. Cast wheels aren't the best for really rough riding.

My 2009 Stelvio's "Alpina" wire wheels have been holding air for 11 years now.   In between tire changes I note whether it's losing any air just sitting.   Two tire changes ago (40,000 miles on the bike then), the rear was dropping about a pound a week.   I have a collection of the little clips and O-rings, so I replaced three spoke ends where I suspected a trace of leakage.

Most of the miles on this bike have been two-up with a 500 pound payload total.  No leakage since.   I wouldn't replace the wheels just from a fear of leaky spoke seals.   If you just like the cast-wheel look, go for it!

But in all fairness its not all the great of an idea to take a 600lb bike in the rough stuff. Like 99.98324% of Adventure bike riding most serious off -roading is limited to gravel roads.

I've owned my 2012 Stelvio for 4 years now,My front wheel always leaked air and because Ireally liked the bike and just put up with adding air once a week to that front wheel,rear wheel never lost a lbs.I believed all the the talk on the internet about The Stelvio wheels being a bad design with too many o-rings on these wheels and it only takes one to cause a leak.
    About six months ago I was going to change the front tire ,My thought was before I remove the old tire I could pinpoint the leaky spoke and possibly fix it so I filled a kids plastic pool with water  I put 60 lbs of air in the tire submerged the wheel  and to my surprise not a single spoke was leaking ,all the air was escaping from the valve stem.Man did I feel like a dope,for 4 years I believed the stories of the bad spoke o-rings .So before you toss out those beautiful spoke wheels ,don't!!!   leave them on the bike where they belong.

When I had my Stelvio I just bought a package of the o-rings from McMaster-Carr to have on hand. In seven years of ownership never had to use them. I would only do the cast wheels if you just like the looks.
