V7 Gear Whine

I noticed lately the V7 seemed to be making more of a whining noise, at first I thought it was coming from the gearbox so I tried some Lucas oil modifier but no improvement so I swapped back to the regular.
Then I thought I would check the rear end out and took the overflow plug out, imagine my surprise when it was over-full so I drained it out, this is what I found.

I guess this must have sucked in via the breather valve, I don't shy away from riding in the rain so now I will be looking at a remote breather system, anyone added one to a V7?
I don't think the water did any damage, it's much quieter with regular oil back in there, I will change it again in a day or two to flush out any remaining water.
There was also some water in the drive shaft tunnel when I greased the splines a few months back so I guess it may have come in that way, I put that water down to the simple Q strap holding the boot on and changed it for a metal band with a better profile.
The breather seems to have a valve in it, how is that supposed to work?
So next time you are doing a bit of work on your V7 or V9 I suggest you take a 10mm Allan key and drop the overflow plug out to check the state of your rear end oil, nothing should come out but the oil should be just below the threads.

Apparently there is no seal at the joint between drive shaft and the pumpkin, there was water in the drive shaft when I greased the splines a couple of months ago,
I think it may have entered at the boot because cable ties were never intended to seal out water, I replaced that with a nice metal one.
The flange where the pumpkin bolts on was also dry. I put something greasy on there to seal water out. I will still make the vent remote ASAP

Is there a small hole in the bottom of the swingarm just near the bevelbox junction like the V85 ?

I threaded on a length of tight fitting hose and ran it along the swingarm and way up under the side cover.

Thanks Sarah, I might check out some steel brake tube for along the drive shaft.
Since I found clear water (not emulsified) in the drive shaft tunnel I thought it might be entering that way instead of the breather, apparently there's mo seal on the shaft.
Did you put the breather valve back on the far end?

I don't think so, you are saying there's a drain on the V85?
The VII Sport was completely open, no tunnel at all.

did mine with this one from fleabay or amazon then ran vacuum tube up like Sarah. I haven't gotten into serious enough rain so far to tell but I'm 90% sure it will work. I too put a CV joint metal strap on the front of the 2017 but I don't think that is the issue as the 2015 I had did the same thing and it had metal stock.
