Well know fact that late model small blocks mostly come with budget suspenion componetns. For many that's perfectely fine and adiquite for many, but not me. I'm a properly sized human at six and a halfish feet and 250lbs, that being the case, I found it taxed my beloved v9 Roamer a bit.
First I ditched the stock KYB shocks, much to harsh, very similar to the stock WP that came on my former Bassa. Didn't want to spend a lot and got a set of very nice Ikon shocks that made a dramatic improvement. It's a roadster, not a race bike, so for me, I didn't see spending hundreds more for high end shocks, and I'm quite please with the Ikon. But once I made that upgrade, it higlighted the deficency fo the forks! The forks simply could not keep up in less than perfect road conditions, which is most of the time!
I ended up using RaceTech, to rebuild the forks, and they now work marvasoully. I was likely a hundred pounds over the design weight of the stocks, which just added viniger to an allready marginal set up at best. New springs, revalveing, 20w, gold emulators (whatever they are) and some other magic have made a dramatic difference.
I can now ride across all maner of road at a much faster speed if I want to, and it handles everthing with much more confidence. All this (front and back) of course did come with a price, but for a bit under $1000 US, the Roamer now can live up to it's name sake with ease and speed!
Just in time for the cold to roll in...
