Old school Rock group discovery
« on: December 18, 2020, 07:35:01 PM »
For you old school rockin roll lovers I’ve just tonight stumble on a group that is definitely playing old school rock in today’s world.
I was watching the movie DUSK TIL DAWN, a vampire movie staring George Clooney. At the end of the movie a really old school rock song was closing things out. I ask my Siri buddy who was the band. The band is the BLASTERS.
I went utube and looked them up and wow what an old rock platform!!
I’m going to attempt to put it on here but if I can’t how about one of you guys doing it. It plays a couple of their songs so try and listen to a couple.

Man, I love the Blasters.  I discovered them when Streets of Fire came out when I was in high school.  One Bad Stud and Blue Shadows were on my mix tape playlist from then until now.   Love to listen to the - I'm Shakin' and more.

If you still listen to CDs like myself then what you want is the two disc set Testament by The Blasters.  :thumb:

I don’t know how I missed them Clint but tonight is the first time I’ve ever heard them, that I can recall. I’ve definitely got to add some of their songs to my MP3, in the “motorcycle trip” categories👍

The entire From Dusk Til Dawn soundtrack is fantastic. The "house band" in the movie is Tito & Tarantula, one of my favorite bands. Saw them in a bar circa 1990 in Chicago. Unfortunately they left the US for Germany never to return except for an occasional SXSW appearance.

Better late than never, Dan.  They're just great rock and roll music.

Extremely fun movie. Worth a look if you have never watched. Great cast and great music as noted. Screenplay written by Quinton Tarantino I believe.

It’s ok. It’s a bit forced. I’m a big Harvey Keitel fan, think Mean Streets. And it’s co wrote with Rodriguez.  Make sure you watch “el Mariachi” also, it’s a good movie. A bit low budget.

At the risk of being a little overzealous, I’ve watched that scene at least 20 times and for the most part to just be at awe of such a beautiful creation. I read that Selma Hayden has said she does not see why she is held as a sexy Individual and she hated the snake part in that scene. She is a very modest person and if anyone noticed she never revealed her private parts in the entire scene.

El Mariachi IS low budget because it was Rodriguez's first movie and he financed the whole thing on credit card. The big budget follow up, Desperado, is the superior movie. And as relates to the original post has a fantastic soundtrack including three songs by Tito & Tarantula and a solid handful by Los Lobos. And if you watch the movie you get another chance of watching the gorgeous Salma Hayek.

“Desperado” is a silly farce, a parody of el Mariachi. If you remade el Mariachi with a Hollywood budget, it would prove out to be the better movie. imho.

Ok y’all got my interest up on the movie “desperado”. I made it to the first scene when a gunshot knocked a person off their feet and flew them 30 ft back and 5’ up a wall. That’s as far as I could get. However I did fast foreword to the first Salma Hayden scene but that ended when wife entered the room.....”what are you watching”!

Love The Blasters...  Crazy good Rockabilly reminiscent of Brian Setzer. What a great sound those cats produce.

Long tome Farm Aide contributors too.

I think it was around 1978 I went to see a double bill at CBGB’s, a friend of mine said the Acme band was good and some other band was playing called The B-52’s. Don’t know whatever happened to The Acme band.
