Guzzidiag cables pin out question
« on: December 02, 2020, 04:32:43 PM »
I bought an OBD2 16 pin to 3 pin cable to use for Guzzidiag but it apparently is the wrong adapter. The 3 pin plug has pins that are too wide to fit the plug on my V9. I’m just going to make my own so I wanted to verify from anyone who knows the proper pin out. The V9 plug has only 2 wires - pin 1 is vacant. Am I correct in thinking that pin 2 from the bike goes to pin 5 of the OBD2 (signal ground) and pin 3 from the bike goes to pin 7 of the OBD2 (K-line)? After that, of course, pin 16 of the OBD2 goes to +12 volts and pin 4 of the OBD2 goes to ground. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I don’t want to brick my ECU.

The web page for GuzziDiag has a nice photo and description at the bottom of the page.

Not sure why your pin 1 is missing, but it looks like what you describe.

There a re a few copy's of the AMP/Tyco Superseal plug, And the ones with short housing have wide or extra wide pins. Only the ones with a longer housing like the one lonelec sells have correct pins. Most of the time when you take the red part out of the bike side connector it will fit.

Thanks, Wayne. I missed that - must not have scrolled down enough.  Interesting that it shows the L-line. Since my V9 is only 2 wire I wonder if Guzzidiag takes that into account. Guess we’ll see.

Thanks, Paul. I tried that but no go.

V9 3-pin diagnostic connector is same as V7 III: K-line, Gnd and not present.  My Norge's third pin was +12V.  I use an external battery to power my Lonelec adapter, which you should have purchased as gently recommended by Beard, Beetle, et al.  And use Windows as also gently recommended (they're polite but you should be able to read between the lines).

GuzziDiag only needs K-line and Gnd.

There is a certain sequence to connect GD to the adapter: https://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=107741.msg1707593#msg1707593

I suggest you start over with the Lonelec and proceed from there.

I noticed that my cable will not plug in with the seal in place, I just take it out while i'm using it and put it back later, no big deal.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I filed the pins down to fit. The ODB2 adaptor would not connect to my V9. Learned there are a lot of variations in the ODB2 world and my unit apparently is defective or doesn’t support K-line signaling. In researching the problem I learned that K-line signaling is similar to RS232 serial ports on older computers except the ones and zeros are opposite polarity and the tx and rcv lines are combined. The ODB2 isn’t doing anything else like data conversion or whatever. My computer still has an RS232 serial port so I cobbled together a quick circuit to convert RS232 to K-line (about $5 in parts). It works! Hot damn I still got it! Guzzidiag works and I’m connected to my bike. I’ve pulled the report and bin file and copied to a safe place. Now to learn what all I can do in TunerPro.
