1200 Sports low beam bulb change advice please
« on: December 16, 2020, 12:15:08 PM »
Hello, looking for help! I have a breva 1100 and the front bulb has blown. My bike is more like the 1200 sports as it has the fairing the same as the sports. I’m not very good at mechanic and need a step by step guide on changing the bulb. What needs to come off the bike and how and things to be aware of and how difficult a job is it?

Many thanks martin

Service manual,  page 224

The low/high bulb is the same H4 bulb.

Hi there, thank you for the service manual link but would appreciate point to point advice I’m not a mechanic or work in a service station

If you have the stock 1200 sport fairing and brackets, there are  four allen bolts to remove. Two where the fairing bolts to the upper end of the bracket above the handlebars, and one on each side of the fairing. The fairing should just slide forward off the bike.

Once you have the fairing removed you'll notice that the headlight is secured with a hollow bolt with threads on each side. The centers are threaded for the side fairing Mount screws.

Remove those two bolts and the headlight should come free.

Pull it out from the bracket and flip around upside down. You will see a trapdoor in the back of the headlight bucket. Press the tang and remove the door and you will have access to both bulbs.

I normally replace both bulbs at the same time, and save the good bulb for a backup.

It's a 5-minute job to disassemble Max.

4 mm allen wrench and 10 mm socket or wrench if I remember correctly.

Do you have tools?  Have you checked Youtube?  Are you mechanically inclined?

Part of the whole process is also hit or miss & doing it on your own.  Biggest advice is not to use full arm strength when tightening bolts.  More of finger pressure.  Not even wrist strength otherwise you'll break nuts, bolts or fiberglass.  Check out the general auto repair section.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HO3IXM3XkUU
