I saw him "live" once at a small club in New York...At the time, he was known as "The Great Fatsby..."

He was great, and a guitar innovator.  R.I.P. Leslie West....and Godspeed...

"Nantucket Sleigh Ride" was one of my favorites...

Leslie West is the first guitarist to give me goose bumps.

I saw him several times and he never failed to deliver.

Everybody was faster than he was but nobody has a more recognizable tone. His phrasing is impeccable - just brilliant.

Genius.

RIP

Mountain played an awesome set at Woodstock.
Look for "Woodstock 50 back to the garden" for the whole recording.

My first concert in my life was Black Sabbath and Mountain. Boy, did that crowd ever open up this little ole innocent farm boy's eyes at the time.

My 1st eye opener like that was summer jam in KC in Ohhhh 1977?. first we wandered into a BBQ joint near Swope park, My group of small town white boys were the minority for sure. We didn't "feel" welcome. Then over to The Chiefs stadium for a day of sex, drugs and rock and roll. I didn't think people really bumped uglies in public but they damn sure do! This Baptist preacher's kid was SHOCKED (but I didn't leave)

Ah yes the KC summer jams. Attended one I think in 75 that was not at the stadium but at an amusement park. Pretty much everyone was f%$&up every way possible plus your ticket included the rides which at times the operators would leave running for extended periods of time. Great show however. Climax Blues Band, Bob Seeger,
Blue Oyster Cult and Styx. Even had a fighter jet do a roll above the park through a donut hole in the clouds while BOC was playing.

All I remember was April Wine and Kenny Loggins. The rest was a blur. Too busy keeping from being barfed on and getting my ass home w/o dad having to bail me out of a KC calaboose. That would not have gone over well.

Leslie West was a great guitar player. A matter of fact he inspired me to buy a '57 Les Paul jr. back in the day. Sunn and Marshall amps were his mainstays. I wasn't able to buy the Marshall Major at the time as that would be icing on the cake. Leslie, you'll see Silver Bells in Heaven!

OK, guitar lovers here is a good book for you to read by Jimmie Capps titled The Man in Back. He wrote it and took a dirt nap shortly after writing the book. I don't know anything about music, but I enjoyed the book.
