Usually, the term "TIDDLER" refers to a little bike, maybe 100cc or less... 

IMHO, this Suzuki, at 400cc , would be considered a middle-weight....(just sayin...)  Still, a cool little bike!

That is a sweet looking ride! I like the white faced instruments and a handle bar that's actually one bar. Just a nice clean package.

I thought it was very comfortable riding vs. a sport bike, but I was young then.   

It sounded great and seemed to be one of the first bikes with a super high redline, 14,000 rpms I believe, which was kind of unusual back then.  It had a "happy motor" and loved to rev up ... which you needed to do to get anywhere fast ... from idle to maybe 7,000 it was pretty slow, but from around 7K rpms to redline it was tons of fun. GSXR-400 engine, not a foo foo engine. 

My friend with a Ducati SuperLight 900 was a bit pissed his bike wasn't as fast as the wailing Bandit 400.

      No, but maybe the rider on that road with traffic was.

      I've seen plenty of guys throw caution to the wind on small bikes and pull away from people on much larger machines; on the street and on the track, the bigger bike should reel them in on the straights, but a skilled rider on a small bike in the corners can be humbling to watch.

      I once had a young guy on a 360 Honda pull away from me easily because I wasn't willing to play the same weaving game through city traffic and buses.

      On back country roads, I no longer will ride corners blindly, so I can well envision a skilled, fearless rider on that 400, would leave me in the dust, and that's ok 

      Back to the bike on the op, I was familiar with the Suzuki 400 twins, didn't realize that they ever made a 4 cyl screamer, sharp looking machine.

I witnessed this classic "low-center-of-gravity" Guzzi leave many larger bikes in the the dust in the twisties on several rides on the back roads of NORCAL...   (Plus the owner of this bike is an excellent rider!!)

We did not line up on a drag strip, and run 1/4 runs until we optimized everything.  And the Super Light was really just a name, I think it was like 6-7 lbs lighter than a normal 900.   But Super Light sounds better than "a wee bit lighter". 

In real world, pull onto the road and spiritly take off down the road, the Bandit was faster.  I was surprised, he was shocked.  My bike had stock exhaust, modified jetting, and slightly modified airbox.  His bike was stock.  I was about 50 lbs lighter than him.  So who knows what combo made this happen.  Maybe he didn't shift at best rpm level?  Maybe he tried reving the 900 higher when he should have shifted?  We rode together a number of times and it wasn't a fluke one time thing.

The power characteristics are obviously dramatic opposites.  So on backroads, coming out of a corning, maybe I was at 7,000 rpms or so and maybe he was at 3,500 rpms or so, don't know.  Maybe I felt more comfortable going around corners faster than he did? 

It had the GSXR-400 engine, not sure if they detuned it any to go into the Bandit, but with a 14,000 redline doesn't sound detuned to me.

I'm not shocked at its potential speed, but I am shocked that $2000 is considered too high for a nice bike like that.

The bike is a bargain at $2k.  I'd say it's value at $3-4k and might be a collectable in a few years.

     Very nice  Is that a Falcone? My eyes can't see the whole engine in the shadow.

     I've got a thing for big singles, the ones I have would be more powerful and faster than that Falcone, but I'd love to try that torquey heavy flywheel out on a nice back road.

Yes, it is a 1967 Nuovo Falcone, civilian model, I believe...Cool little vintage Guzzi!

Love the Bandits!  Nice little bike at a fair price, I'd say, even though I sold my beautiful GSF1200S for a few hundred less.  I didn't realize these were liquid-cooled.  The fins on the cylinder block suggest otherwise, but there's the radiator.  I had an '89 Honda CB-1 "wife's bike " that was similar to the Bandito 400.  No doubt I looked pretty silly riding it.
