NGC the S90 is back
« on: February 09, 2021, 08:54:41 PM »
Looks like a Honda S90 clone with a punched out motor, that's a cheap scoot!

I wonder how many folks got their start on a trusty Honda S90?

My best riding buddy got one in 1966 as a gift from his mom, it was a 1965 model, red and and he still has it, I restored it for him many years ago, lovely bike.
At 14 years old his mom packed a knap sack with clothes, some food, and he set off on gravel roads for a couple hundred miles to his grandparents farm for the summer, can you imagine a 14 year old doing that today or a parent allowing it, no cell phones, all gravel roads and his grandparents didn't even have a phone. He had a map that his mom marked up for him, simple directions and where to go if he had trouble along the way (police detachments, grain elevators, train stations). Upon arrival his grandmother made him write a letter to let his mom know he was ok, it took a week for the letter to make it back home. He ran out of gas once on the trip, he just walked to the nearsest farm and the farmer gave him a pop bottle full of gas to get him on his way. Since then he has toured most every part of the North American continent, from the Arctic ocean to Key West, from Cabo to the eastern most tip of Newfoundland, every state, province, territory and a lot of Mexico.

It all began with a Honda S90.

I would like to think that some young gal or guy could get this S90 knock off and fall in love with motorcyles for a lifetime.

That doesn't quite have the right vintage look for me - it would be great if the S90 was the next little bike Honda introduces (after the CT etc).

I bought a red 66 that I reawakened about 15 years ago and ran in 3 NorthEast Moto Giro events.  Lots of fun and the little bike got through the ~200 mile weekends with no issues.   In third gear on the flats it would have a top speed of about 51 MPH, but notch it up to fourth gear and you could hit, well, 51 MPH.  Choose the gear for your favorite sound I guess.   I did hit an indicated 70 or so going down a ski mountain road.  And barely made it UP another one - having to slip the clutch a few times.  Fun and a VERY good looking design.

At age 15, my SECOND motorcycle was a "used" black & chrome 1967 Honda S90 just like this one!! :thumb:

Tough to replicate the original vintage version (*SIGH*)  For a restored version like this, prepare to spend $3K-$4K or more!

I still have mine. 1966, never had to remove your wallet to pay for gas—— pocket change filled her up.

Yep, my first bike. black of course..followed up the next year with a 305 Superhawk which I rode for several years until I sold it for $1.00 to a Marine at Fort Holabird MD defore flying back home for my pre-Nam leave.  Both the S-90 and the 305 were reliable, but like everyone i loved the BSA Lightening and the Bonnie.   Sometimes I think unrequited loved served me well.

My first bike many, many moons ago was a Yamaha 100 twin. Fun little bike. Thought I was hot stuff! Lol.

My first bike, age 10 or so, was a Honda Trail 90.  A guy in the neighborhood had a Super 90, and I wanted that bike so bad.

When I was 13 - 15 years old and living in Japan the S-90 was a desirable bike among my friends. I had a Honda 55 scrambler (domestic model) and a Tohatsu 125. Those 60's era Hondas got a lot of us riding. They were durable. We beat the living crap out of our bikes and took it for granted that they would just keep running, and they did. The glory days.

Needs more chrome tank panels!  The whole "look" of the S90 is the tank shape and chrome panels.

Great story and it brought back great memories. When I was 14 my first bike was 1965 S65cc. I had a plumber bend me a straight pipe turned upward like the choppers of the time. I pulled the seat off and put an old bicycle seat in its place. Can you just imagine the sight of that😂
