Firstly, do use new gaskets. Get a few extra sets, it can take a bit of familiarity (aka practice) to get that section to sit square.
I don't know about the Zard system, but my Agostini headers are multi-sectioned also, and the stubbie section that joins the head also has a ring sweated onto it - it allows the bracket to be squeezed onto the head, tightly to the gasket, so that ring is usually in between the bracket & head. To me, your first photo looks like you've the inside bit on the outside. Keep on playing around with it, you'll likely get the hang of it (sic) sooner or later. For those of whose mind doesn't work that way (the mechanically challenged), but are OK at jigsaws, it takes longer to work out things that are obvious to others.
