New V7 Tech Specs & Weight (from BikeIt website
« on: February 18, 2021, 01:10:11 PM »
Man, that BikeIt! Website is hot hot hot with the news, huh?
https://www.bikeit.gr/texnika-all/item/26045-texniki-analysi-moto-guzzi-v7-2021

Table copied from the webpage shows the specs:

And regarding the weight, Quote:
“The transition from the V7 III to the new V7 of 2021 brought some extra pounds, which increase in the case of the V7 Special mainly thanks to its radial wheels:

V7 III - 189 kg dry / 209 wet
V7 Stone 2021 - 198 kg dry / 218 wet
V7 Special 2021 - 203 kg dry / 223 liquid”

For the fellow Americans out there who don’t know their metric system, that’s:

Stone = 436 lb. dry, 480 lb. wet (revised)
Special = 448 lb. dry, 492 lb. wet

Who knew the second instrument gauge was so heavy, ha.

Something is fishy with those numbers (both yours OR maybe mind, and BikeIT).

I have the V7II Stone as 417/453 and the III Stone as 432/461. EDIT - but Guzzi's own website (which once didn't list dry weights for some of the V7III models is now claiming your number 417 on the dry. Well, no matter, they agree on the wet weights)*

But even then:

the V7III Stone is 432* dry / 461 wet   (29# difference which isn't enough to account for the fuel but let's ignore that for a second)*
the 2021 Stone is 437 dry / 481 wet   (44# difference which is more believable for fuel at 8.4#/gal and 5.5 gal).

But you see the problem. The 2021 Stone is supposedly only 5# heavier DRY but 20# heavier wet when they have the same fuel (and probably same oil) capacities!?!

So one of them is a LIE weight.*

And honestly, we're only talking AT MOST a 20# difference between the V7III and the 2021 if the WET weights are reasonably accurate.

I kind of wonder if the V7III wet weight isn't higher than reported. Or if there's some other dumb difference in the way it is reported. With 1/2 load of fuel (III) and full load of fuel (2021).

I didn't do the same analysis with the Special because it wasn't in my spreadsheet, but I wonder if there is a similar discrepancy.

I should weigh Jenn's Carbon Dark. But ya know with all that light weight carbon fiber instead of the HEAVY plastic (yeah I'm being sarcastic).  :boozing:

*EDIT - I'm starting to think my old 432 dry weight on the V7III was a lie. If the V7III was indeed only 417 as your numbers suggest then the difference between the dry and wet weight would be the same 44# as claimed on the 2021.

Now the only question is why was there NO difference in dry weight between the V7II and the V7III in dry weight and a small difference in wet weights. Probably just a mistake or difference in how it was measured (fuel, battery, oil something).

PS for whatever it is worth the V7III service manual lists kerb weight:

Special/Anniversario: 213 kg / 470 #
Stone/Racer: 209 kg / 461 #

As long as we're here, these are the numbers I have:

V7C: 401 dry / 444 wet
V7 (Mk I) Stone:  395 dry / 443 wet
V7II Stone: 417 dry (lie?) / 453 wet
V7III Stone:   432 dry / 461 wet

and if true

2021 Stone: 437 dry / 481 wet

Me? Make a mistake?  Of course I did.
I was accidentally looking at the V7III, just revised my kg > lb conversion.

Yeah me too see the mess above.

Or ignore it all.

READER'S DIGEST VERSION: Looks like 2021 V7 is about 20# heavier fully fueled, supposedly mostly in tires. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Definitely not gonna eat up most of the power difference.

Let's remember that even at a growing portly 480# that V7 stone is only 37# heavier than the V7C of a decade ago - but the V7C made only 48 hp at the crank, while the 2021 is claiming what 65 hp? That's a big difference for 37#.
