NGC-Suspenders
« on: February 08, 2021, 11:57:43 AM »
Enough is enough. At 66 I can’t keep my pants up and finally going to suspenders. This is a new frontier and I don’t know if some are better than others. Any advice? Do  red ones work better?

It depends on your size and activities. I like loose stretchy ones  most of the time. Stretchy ones cause less shoulder pain. You need stronger ones when riding. The wind will whip them if you are not wearing a jacket. You can cross them in the front  if need be.  If you travel, these non metal ones can save you a lot of hassle at the airport.  https://www.amazon.com/airport-friendly-suspenders/s?k=airport+friendly+suspenders  The red ones have curious side effects.

Check out Perry Suspenders. They clip to your belt with plastic clips, no metal. They make wide ones and narrow ones. I use them on the bike and off. All colors and designs...

I got wide red Carhart suspenders, they work great. I clip them to my belt, not my pants. When I need extra security I clip them over the belt AND the belt loop

If you travel, these non-metal ones can save you a lot of hassle at the airport.  https://www.amazon.com/airport-friendly-suspenders/s?k=airport+friendly+suspenders  The red ones have curious side effects.

From the TSA's standpoint, those "airport-friendly" suspenders are only friendly if you are going through a metal detector with a high threshold. If you are over the age of 75 or have TSA Precheck, they might make a difference. If not, you will be going through a body scanner that uses millimeter wave technology. These will find almost everything on your person, including belts and suspenders, and you will be touched by a tired, overworked TSO everywhere those suspenders go. This is also why they ask you to remove EVERYTHING from your pockets.

Don't ask me how I know.

I've tried the clip on suspenders and I could never get them to stay clipped, they always came undone, idk? fwiw.

When I recently needed a pair of suspenders for my Rukka pants with secure old fashioned buttons, I couldn't find a decent pair of suspenders anywhere, so I adapted an old pair of suspenders made for hockey pants, they fit secure and they work well, but I do wish they were a bit longer.

these are the best going especially for riding and heavier pants. check out the co. website first https://www.amazon.com/stores/Holdup+Suspender+Company+Inc/page/CA60E1F9-B34C-43DB-B48E-F1520AE3466C?ref_=ast_bln
their cam buckle works.
I also use the nice stretchy ones from wally world with the plastic clips that go on the belt. easy to remove if necessary.

I have been using suspenders for a few years now. I prefer the ones that button to the pants. A belt is optional.
You can buy the buttons or buy pants with the buttons already installed.

The clip on type work for me as long as I attach to where the belt loop is located giving the clips a thicker place to grab.  Red suspenders blend in when wearing your red Moto Guzzi T-shirt like I am today.  These suspenders are labeled "Craftsman" and I bought them at Sears Roebuck & Company when they had a market share and stores everywhere.

Check out DuluthTrading.com, good selection on gallusess of good quality.

As far as metal detectors go the HS is quickly switching to "mass detectors", and not metal detectors. So get ready for a pat down!

Years ago I bought a pair of "Moto Guzzi" lettered Carhart suspenders.   If I can remember where I put them I'll see if I can find who made them.  They were "specials" custom made.

Eureka!  I found them, still in the bag.  They were made by CP Customs Boutique  out of Rickreall, Oregon 97371

Of course mine are for the Blue Collar guy.

I got them with clasps --- just in case my pants didn't have buttons.

Had a brief flirtation w suspenders a number of years ago but quickly got over that....all they did was irritate my nipples (TMI?).

I actually rarely wear a belt except as somewhere to hang my Leatherman. My pants stay up since I’m an ectomorph with belly smaller than my hips.

I've been wearing Perry Suspenders for years, the ones that clip over your belt. I happened to notice on the web site of The Suspender Store, www.suspenderstore. com  that Perry makes a non-stretch wide suspender. I thought, why do I need a pair of suspenders that stretch? I'm always having to scootch up my riding pants because the suspenders stretch and let them sink down. So I ordered a pair of black Perry non-stretch suspenders, and they work great!
