Now the auction is getting into new and uncomfortable territory. Yesterday someone with no history on the site posted a comment that “This bike is known to the TCS/ comp singles register with history and details.”  I’ve asked for clarification but the poster is silent.   I can’t find any such registry. I am concerned that this will chill bidding.  If the history is positive, it might increase bidding.  The auction has 2+ days yet.

I have messaged BaT that if this isn’t resolved I might pull the bike from the auction, which may well get me banned from the site.  I have the v50 in the ad drafting stage.

I’m not concerned about losing BaT as a tool, but I don’t want to be a jerk. I also don’t want to see the bike go for short money as a result of this.

Am I just being paranoid? What would you do?
Ben

Since you ask: I would bring it up with the auction site.
It sounds like BAT are very serious, so I would think they would look into comments which may be ominous or misleading. As mentioned by others, especially when the comment is from someone with no history on the site.

I am assuming that you have a reserve price on this bike.  ??  One should always put a reserve price, once reserve is met then usually bidding picks up.
And yes, there seems to be occasions when someone will post negative comments for some reason...But the reserve protects you so that you dont end up giving it up for much less than its worth...

I did bring it up with BaT. They were very responsive but noncommittal. The poster surfaced and clarified.  I was able to find and post the Matchless listserve. It was just discussion about the bike.  I feel much better now.

Griso - I did not set a reserve.  I usually do but wanted to take a chance on this bike since I think it shows well.  I feel as if no reserve auctions get interest right away.  We’ll see. These auctions don’t do much til the last hours and minutes.

BaT has so much more going on psychologically than eBay.  The combination of preselection and posted commentary creates a very different feel.  I didn’t realize going in how much different it would be.  My v50 is going to be going up not much after the Matchless auction ends.  I’ll get a chance to revisit whether no-reserve auctions are a good idea.

Cold weather regards to all.

This is fun watching! Looks like a pretty darn good auction to me. I spend a lot of time lurking in BAT. Granted it's not really over until you receive money and the vehicle is delivered. I think the people here that complain about BAT really don't understand the platform. I'll be interested in your final thoughts. Great finale!!

Thanks AJ.  I’ll post final thoughts when the bike is gone, but from now on it should be just like eBay.

I do feel that the site produces a good number of knowledgeable and committed bidders.  It’s not for the faint of heart since all the action is in the last few minutes.  The comments can also be pretty unsettling.  You also have to be very interactive.

My v50 should be up in a week or so.  After that I think I’m done with this for a while.  Wrenching is so much more calming.

Hey, Scout,
was the outcome pretty much in line with your hopes and expectations?

Just wondering

The number was right where I had hoped it would be Pebra.  I listed it on eBay last summer and I think the bidding went to about 7500 or 8000, a little short of my reserve.  I paid 8300 for it and put my time and about 1000 in parts into it.  I maybe made $300.00 not counting labor, which we all know is a win.  The real win is more garage space and my bike fund will be replenished.  The G5 just hit the expensive stage - paint and all the small hardware for reassembly.

Thanks everyone for watching and support.  It was nice to have company the first time around.   I think BaT is a great venue for sellers if the bike is somewhat desirable or cool.  I can’t see buying on the site.  The biggest surprise was how exciting the last few minutes were.

The biggest surprise was how exciting the last few minutes were.

I kept reading people saying that, but I was still shocked how accurate that description was, what a flurry of bids at the end, must have been a nail biter for you.

Thanks for sharing that exciting ride with us, it was very interesting to follow along, well done keeping the comments and auction on the rails.

     Congrats with the sale

It’s worth a look back at the auction results.  It looks like Malcolm Smith was one of the bidders near the end.  I would have delivered the bike across the country personally.  I would like to ride like him for just a day.
