It would a lot more appealing, to me anyhow, as a 650cc,
350 is simply not big enough for road use and too big for serious trail riding, IMHO.

I had a 1989 GB500. It had a kickstarter and everything. Great little bike, except the suspension would get overwhelmed in the twisty bits.

Pretty much staying on pavement...I’d use that for a months long tour if I could...small light nimble quick high mpg small luggage space to take less

Euro/Japan  gets all sorts of crazy...

Since it's a new model, how can one say it's "reliable"? Only long-term, real world testing will prove that to be true. Oh, because it's a Honda.

21 horsepower! .8 horsepower more than the new Royal Enfield 350 Meteor, 3.5 less than the Himalayan. For a comparison, the SR400 made 24 (dyno tested) rear wheel horsepower.

Interesting! It is a bike constructed in India. Definitely a direct competitor to the new RE Meteor 350.

It's not exactly new either.
It's called the Honda CB350 H'ness in India and was released a year ago.

So it might indeed already have some long(ish) term reviews.

I like it a lot. Pitty we don't get it in Europe either.

Cheers,
D.

We don´t need it in Europe. We get the Meteor. I could even buy that at my Guzzi dealer. 5 min from my home.

That's a great looking little bike.  Nice beginner bike, I suppose.  For an experienced rider, the lack of power would likely get old fairly soon.

Sure is cute, though.

I had a 1970 CB450 that I loved until it got totaled in 1973.
I'd be up for an updated version I think.

For reference, the Suzuki DR350 made about the same horspower as the new Honda 350.  Not bad for 55 mph and slower, single person, of course.  But at times you feel as paranoid as a speed bump.

The DRZ400 made about 34 HP the same HP as the DR 650, but the DR 650 made almost twice as much torque.  On the road the DRZ400 feels anemic compared to the DR650.  70 mph, two up, no problem on the DR650.

Nice concept, more applicable to countries with tiered licensing than the US.  650cc version would probably not weigh more than 20 lbs more than the 350cc version, perhaps the same weight.

True. Not sure why. Probably because of it being kick start only.

That is probably one factor.  Although I would think with fuel injection, it would start very easily.  I recall a friend's 1994 DR 650 was kickstart only, and the easiest bike to kickstart I have ever seen.

Price and competition would be others.  Kawasaki 400 is $1000 cheaper.  DR 650 is $600 more.

Lots of people say they want a street single, but when it comes time to ante up, they don't.  Lack of power is probably the biggest reason IMO.

How long has Honda been making a variant of that air cooled single? That's why it's termed "reliable".

A nice bike, as we all know. However: it was nearly as expensive as the V7 Stone, or in other words: you could get a well-equipped Enfield 650 for the money. Or, another price point: you can get the Meteor for less than € 4000,-, the Honda Super Cub 125 sells for 3500,- to 3800,- here. Go figure what a full-grown  350 ccm Honda would cost in Europe.

Yeah, they did.  It was actually the detuned, or de=cc'd version of their excellent SR500.  The SR400 was a nice looking little bike, and a definite throwback to the 70's.   Didn't even have electric start, which probably helped to seal it's fate in the U.S., although that certainly wouldn't have bothered me.  I remember when electric start began appearing on bikes, and my first bike to have it was my 1971 Honda CB750.  I remember being embarrassed to start it by pushing a little button.  Times have changed.

I had the GB400 with a dual seat.  Very quick in the handling department.

New RS version

I would totally buy one.

Had a SR400, the kickstart only got old, and the motor was strangled with emissions/exhaust, plus it shook like a paint shaker.

I have to satisfy my 400cc fix with the Chinese Genuine G400c....

I'd like to see Honda bring the bike to the US market, but cost of complying with emissions may make it a non-starter.

I doubt it would sell.  It is kinda, but not completely competing with the DR 650, DRZ 400, Boulevard S40, CB 300, CB 500, ER 400, and SR 400.

For the same money, it would be fun to start with a DR 650, XR650L, Suzuki Savage and build your own 70's style bike.

Yep, but that's what happens when you try to sell a $4000 bike for $6000.  I liked the bike but not at that price.  Being kickstart only didn't help.  I think Royal Enfield is bringing their 350 single to the US. If Honda does bring theirs here it needs to be priced accordingly with the 300/400 bikes currently in the market, i.e. less performance and retro themed.

Never understood why the SR400 cost so much, it was in production for 40 years or so and all that changed from the SR500 was FI and going spoked rims.
