« on: April 18, 2021, 01:28:29 AM »
Hey guys

Im about to install my tom tom gps on my new 1200 i was lazy when i fitted the gps on my r1200gs but id like to do it in a way where it loses all power when the keys turn off
anyway my question is there a wire that isnt in the main harness used for this purpose ? the bike has no kms pretty much and the bike is very special to me so i dont want to go splicing into the harness if i dont have to.
thanks

Should be a gps intended plug under the tank, front left side (while seated) of the steering head, similar to the Norge. You can buy a plug-in from BMW or Mercedes (think it is a fog light plug)  that plugs straight on or do what many do and cut the end off and wire in a more standard plug.

I used this to power my GPS, USB power plug and my auxiliary driving lights in the front.

Someone will have a pic I'm sure but the plug has a green center if I remember.

If there isn't a way to tie into the harness then use a micro-relay triggered off a switched circuit OR, put a waterproof switch on the power line.
