I finished this up tonight. Not the easiest installation, by any means. Subframe build and installed. Made the shorter windshield tonight. It goes back to its owner tomorrow.

Brand new Velorex. I do everything from making the subframes, installing and alignment.

Ah, the Velorex, so I imagine quite lighter then. I know a lot of sidecars get attached to GS bikes— Is the Quota the closest Guzzi gets to one of those fitment- and performance-wise with a sidecar?

This is the first side car I've ever seen hooked to a Quota. Nice job. The Quotas sucked up gas solo so I imagine the gas mileage will be terrible with the tub attached.

I bet it's a great mounting job.

Someday I may get around to using that engine through-bolt mount you sold me way back when.

You should make a portfolio of your mounting jobs, to entice customers. (Me, maybe, some day. Still enjoying my T3 as it is now.)

The easiest mounts are on the Tonti frames. All years, all models. VERY clean installation. I will say, this Quota, if a person pulled the four bolts to take the sidecar off, would be Beautiful as a bike, with the mounts left on. Cleaner than clean mounting. With the sidecar off, not many would even notice the mounts on there.

It tracks dead straight. BUT, the nature of sidecars. Straight on one road, might be a little pull on the next. I dialed in a bit more lean-out at first, since it'll need quite a bit of ballast for the new rider. I tossed in one 45 lb sack of sand, but it'll need more at first. Once they get more comfortable and the ballast is lessened (Never eliminated entirely) then it's easy to reduce lean-out. The lower rail is set up so that lessening lean-out won't change toe-in.

Nice setup! That is what I really wanted to do with my Quota. Instead I settled for using the Convert. The Quota would make a terrific tug, I know you will love it. As to poor gas mileage, well, I think the Convert will be even worse than the Q! I think I am getting somewhere around 25mpg.

I forgot the customers name. NExt up is either a XS650 that needs a Velorex 562, or a Road King that needs a 565. We'll see which customer gets here first.

One thing I think you will likely discover is that the Velo is a pretty light hack and the Quota is a top heavy bike. I think you will be putting a bunch of ballast in the Velo in order to keep the chair from flying on even the most gentle right hand corners. A heavier hack would be a better match for the Q. Thant being said, you'll still have a ball with what you have there.

Question for you Lee. I have never tried to cut a windshield down but the screen on my Texas sidecar is to tall. Can you advise me on the best way to shorten it?

I have not had great luck shortening existing windshields. I just get a sheet of Polycarbonate and cut a new one. It drills nice and it TOUGH. Is that an option for you?

It's for a customer. And you are spot on about the Velo in relation to the Quota. I'm setting lean-out accordingly, and encouraging them to hault appropriate ballast. Almost all Velorex rigs need ballast anyway. This'll just need a tad more.

Stu, I have cut down any number of bike windscreens, using my band saw. Use a medium tooth 1/4 inch blade. put masking tape on the windscreen both sides and draw your shape on to the tape. Keep the screen in contact with the table at the blade location as you are cutting. Sand the edge smooth and you can use a small propane/butane flame to smooth the cut edge. I am cutting down a rifle windscreen to make a shorter one for my Ural chair; in this case I am cutting off the bottom half of the screen and shaping it to the top deck of the chair.

JayDee24ca, I guess that is worth a try. The worst that can happen is I'll have to seek a piece of polycarbonate to make a new one if it fails.
