V7 melting clutch cable re-routing?
« on: June 18, 2021, 09:29:50 PM »
2014 V7 racer.  Looking in the frame, I can see that the clutch cable has a thick rubber boot on it which is melting as it's resting against the right hand side cylinder head.

I've read online about people re-routing them but not sure where to re-route it. I can see two hooks hanging from above. Are there supposed to be any cables in there as mine don't have anything in there.

The clutch cable appears to be too short to be able to get it onto the hooks. I'm thinking about putting a zip tie on the hook and then around the cable to suspend it.

Just curious what others have done to get the clutch cable out of the way.

thanks
James

Don't overthink it, just use a wire tie to hold it to that hook and off the cylinder.

Thanks for the reply. I'll do that. Glad I caught it before it burned through the rubber boot.

I'm slowly getting all the quirks sorted out with this bike. Having fun with it which is the important thing.

The Breva has it routed reasonably high up, and it is a real bear to route.  Probably why Breva owners drag the new one through with the old one...

Exactly what I had to do on my 2015 V7.

Crazy fix on Guzzi’s part.  “Let’s stop the cable sheath from melting by adding a piece of thicker rubber that’ll take longer to melt”.

And take a close look at your plug wires too.

My plug wire are resting against the channel in the back of the cylinder. Is that not how it's supposed to be?  how do you suspend those?

As long as they’re not burning. Mine started, and I put on some shrink wrap and braided heat resistant covering.

It shouldn't be touching the cylinder for long life.
