CONVERT BAGS and Mounts onto a G5 (without using outer mount rails or crash bars)
Well,
the G5 is actually running pretty good now with only a rough idle to contend with and the time has come to get some saddle bags on it. I have a set of cop mounts and hard cases from a Convert that should go right on, but I would like to leave the nice civilian rear crash bar on the G5 and just use the inner lower part of the cop mount for the cop hardcases.
Has anybody done this on a Convert or other Tonti? I know it will bolt up and connect. I am just wondering if the boxes will be too shakey that way without additional bracing. Pictured below is the only piece of the mount I want to use on each side.

That how Converts come from the factory, any "outer mount rails" would have been aftermarket. The original saddlebags mounted at three points - front and rear bottom and about mid-way on the inner side. Unless your 'bags are thin and flexy, the same mounting points should be more than adequate. It is for my Pelican cases.

What's pictured is as much mount as there is for that setup, except for an additional piece that connects the two sides and bolts to the rear fender.  It connects to the open end of that bar welded partway up the vertical strut.  That piece is what stabilizes the sides.

Thanks Charlie, Rodekyll,
I have that back connector piece and bracket, too, though pitted.
