California (1400) Rear Brake Pad Replacement
« on: August 21, 2021, 10:15:05 AM »
Hi all. Not much of a poster, but read the site almost daily. Was replacing the rear pads today and a clip fell out of the caliber. Not sure where it goes and need your advise. Attaching cut part of the image off. Sorry.
Thank you all in advance.

Jim

It plugs into the top inside recess in top of the caliper above the pads. Up is just how your picture shows it.  You may have to tweek the two little prongs you see on the top of that outward . They are what holds it in place . It has to go in before the pads.

Thanks lucian. That helps.

Now as a guy that has replaced many a car brake pads, how do you remove the damn caliper? Don't have the regular bolts like on a car. Boy this makes a man feel stupid.

no need to remove caliper just pull the little cotter pin on the pin that  runs through the rear of the pads , Spread the pads a bit with a flat screwdriver or such and then punch the pin out. The  pads will pull right out.

To remove the caliper you have to drop the rear wheel , the caliper and it's carrier come off the axle together. You can get that spring clip back in by just removing the pads and fishing it back in  and poking it up into it's recess. bend the little prongs out a wee bit first as they plug into the top of the caliper and that's all that holds them there until the pads are in.

Worked perfect. Already had the pads out so was easy to work it in place. As many people have said, this place can answer anything. Now if I wasn't so anti-social, maybe I would post a little more.

lucian, riding up you way in a couple week to ride with my son who's stationed there. Looking forward to going back there.
