Kudos to Teo Lamers
« on: August 20, 2021, 09:33:26 AM »
It's nice to have something good to say! After talking to Curtis at Harpers & being told that the eccentric bolt missing from my v11 Sport transmission was no longer available and they had none in stock, I posted about it. Charlie Mullendore sent me a message about two sources in Europe that had the part in stock (at least according to their websites). The first said they had one, but by the time I tried to post the order the "out of stock" message came up. That left Teo Lamers, I went to their site & saw a message that they were on holiday (in Europe they are civilized-whole countries take a month vacation in the summer), The message said that they'd be back 8/17/21 and any orders placed would be filled in the order received. Sigh! I placed the order 8/12/21 with the hope of having the part in my hot hands by the end of the month. Well, yesterday evening when I went to lock the back door I noticed an envelope on the arm of the glider on the back porch. I retrieved it and....Ta-ta... my eccentric bolt..... 2 days from Holland to my back door! Make no mistake, it wasn't cheap 11.38 for the bolt 35.00 to get it here (Euros), but hey, it means having the bike on the road 10 days-2 weeks  sooner than I expected. Kudos to TLM for excellent service.

TLM and Stein-Dinse really have their "$hit together" when it comes to shipping. TLM's 35 Euros is a flat rate, so I usually fill up the order with other stuff. I once ordered an SP fairing from them and the box was huge, thick and strapped - still 35 Euros.

That's how I got my SP fairing, too. Slick work.

Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance talks at great length about a bolt like that. Two different ways of looking at it, what it is or what it means, to establish its worth. Must be fifty years since I’ve read that book

I had the opposite reaction.  35 Euro fixed price shipping is OK unless you are shipping a package of let’s say 200 Euro or less.  I go to other sources for modest purchases or ship to a European address.  It would be simply nuts to buy something for 50 Euro with that shipping cost, although I did it just once to get some OEM badges that weren’t available anywhere else.   35 Euro shipping cost for 20 Euro of parts that were shipped in a small envelope was offensive to me, and Teo Lamers is in my ‘vendor of last resort’ category.

Well, in Ron's case, the eccentric "bolt" he bought was not available anywhere else and his V11 Sport is a big doorstop without it. Sometimes one just needs to "pay the piper" if one wants to "dance".

My “dance” now is typically (1) try to get the part from anybody else first, and if that doesn’t work (2) have the part shipped to a contact in Germany at much lower cost, from where it is forwarded to me in the US for the real shipping cost.

When I 1st acquired my 1st MG (Daytona), I was travelling to Europe often. I did a trade show in Netherlands and visited TL. Very impressive. Their Euro mc gear (2000), was way ahead on form, function & style. Their deep sump, including windage tray, was my 1st order. Mostly Harpers' subsequently.  Good folks, all.  R3~

I had never heard of this place.  Is there a website in English that I can bookmark?
