So……………who needs a double?

I’d buy that just based on the condition of his workspace….right?

Love the dual tanks…nice grey handgrips

Really cool period piece…I guess I’m attracted to antiques now…must come w age..”oh look it’s still running………just like me..”

Posted a month ago, I hope it’s getting some attention

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't SEARS sell ALLSTATE....and Montgomery Wards sold Benelli, along with Puch, Gilera, and other European brands?

JJ, you are right of course.  I had a Bianchi scooter that I bought used. The PO told me that it was imported by Macy's, but I believe that Wards actually sold them but I am not sure about that.

Yes, good to see a vintage bike that's been dialed-in mechanically and is still stock. That's my plan for my '71 Ambo.

HOW did this design get away with mounting the passenger pegs to the mufflers, with no obvious support to the frame? Looks like the mufflers are just cantilevered off the clamps to the headers.

When I was in high school, a buddy of mine had one of these 106cc singles...Made by Gilera, I believe.  We used to flog it around the trails on his family's farm in upstate New York.  It was a cool little bike! :thumb:

The pegs are mounted to the mufflers. The mufflers are supported by a tube between them that goes through the lower rear of the frame. The front of the mufflers goes through a tubular support as well. There's still quite a bit muffler aft of the rear support tube, but it's never been shown to be an issue.

The more I stare at it, the more I want it. Those are some COOOOL lines, and the guy did a great job on the front wheel and hub.

Did anyone notice the Wallace & Gromit poster on the wall? I like the guy, whoever he is.

I took a ride out and looked at this rascal yesterday, so I'll put a plug in for it here.

I am still ruminating the impact of bringing it home (financial, logistical,  :thewife:), but if anyone was looking for a classic weird bike with ALL the mechanicals dialed in, fixed, and sorted-out in a professional way, this is the bike. The owner definitely knows his bikes and knows what he's doing.

The wheels and hubs look so good because he un-laced the old wheels, installed new rims, polished the hubs, and re-laced the wheels himself. Did everything on this thing mechanically to bring it up to snuff. Cleaned it meticulously so there is not a speck of grease or dirt, and lubed/adjusted/replaced everything that needed lubing/adjusting/replacing. Re-packed the mufflers. Somehow, amazingly, there was not a drop of oil underneath. Still retains the cool, aged, original patina.

Guy has an amazing work area with milling tools and such. I am kind of amazed that it's still available, but I'd just like anyone interested who can't view it personally to know that it's the real deal.

My 20 year old BIL bought one of these back when I was in high school. It was cool, and he never had issues with it. He got rid of it to buy a beautiful blue 1973 TX650 Yamaha.

In 1961-'62, I worked as a mechanic for Montgomery Motors, Mt. Vernon, NY.  We were BSA-Ariel-Velocette dealers and worked on whatever came into the shop.  Sears in Mt. Vernon approached us to be the "official Allstate motorcycle repair station" and so we were.  I did de-cokes on many of these Puch twingles.  Remember, this was when the norm for 2 strokes' lubrication was a half-pint of 30 weight motor oil to a gallon of leaded gas.

This thread brings back a fond memory. When I was a kid a buddy and neighbor, who was a couple years older than I,  got a Sears Allstate 175cc. It was yellows in color.
It was the first motorcycle I ever rode and I was the passenger. He took me for a ride down a dirt road beside where his family owned a neighborhood Shell Service Station.
The temperature was near freezing that night but I only remember the extreme joy of riding a motorcycle for the first time.
A few months later i bought a used 1965 Honda 65cc bike with my tobacco money at the end of the season. My buddy pal and I road the country backroads of Wallburg NC many miles for for the next couple years.
Thanks for the memory!

Dan

Video on twingles

As usual, his videos leave out a few facts. TWN (Triumph-Werke Nürnberg AG) also built "twingles".
