It's all about the Sissy Bar!
« on: September 29, 2021, 08:14:11 PM »
Nice vintage Honda CB550 four.

What's really funny is reading all the bidders "LOVE-HATE" comments about the period Tri-Bar "Sissy Bar!"

I don't recall ever seeing a sissy bar like that.

Here's the one I had to part with due to a move right after college.

There is definitely a subset of motorcycles that are fun to look at, with the period sissy bars, funky 60s windshields, and buckhorn handlebars to leave you sitting upright as you cross the continent

Even better at looking odd when they get smaller

Like a kz200 overloaded w all of the above

Maybe a cb175, groaning w all the accoutrements adding maybe 200 lbs of heavy fiberglass

I’ve collected a few fotos over the years.. the real jewels i like are the completely rusted ones…that still run!

I’d like one each of the 4 japanese, groaning w too much gear…in the 200cc range..that would make a funny foto

We had a 72 Suzuki GT550 Triple two stroke that had Suzuki branded after market period sissy bar and min apes.  Debbie loved that about her bike, and it was mazing how people would post vicious things about how terrible it was, and how stupid we were.  We would just laugh.  Our attitude about any bike if the owners loves it, then that is all that needs to be said. LOL

Here is a little video of her when we first got it lined out and on the road https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRoT9cNCJO4

I lusted for that very same sissy bar but it wouldn't  fit on my XS 750.  What did I know, I was 19 at the time?  I did keep that bike for 25 years though and sold it for $800  so I  could buy my first Guzzi in 2001, which I still have and ride on a regular  basis.

My 77 Suzuki 400 had an adjustible padded sissy bar so you could have a backrest when solo which was great not having any faring or windscreen at the time.
