My '66 Bonnie is being restored at this moment (numbers matching, have owned it 41 years).
Unique paint scheme this one yr. only, though I'm going with '65 colors..Tank and tin at painters now.

Looks pretty correct. Though the oil pressure gauge is an add-on. My experience with these is the oil pump worked fine, or not at all. The check valves in the pump could get gunked up, leading to wet sumping and other issues. 1966 was the first year for the 12V electrical system. Not sure if the Amal Concentrics are correct. May have had Monoblocs.
I find it astounding the money a good, correct one of these will get.

I agree...which is why I think when the time comes, a *NEW" Bonneville, (like the Bonneville Black), would be the way to go, for many reasons.

 If you drool over Meriden bikes why would you consider a newer Hinkley made bike?. Of course the newer Triumphs are a better built machine , no comparison to a an old bike with 1930's technology....
 I love my old Brit bikes...I have a lot of success improving them, But at the end of the day I do appreciate the performance of a more modern bike

I have owned and ridden BOTH, by the way, and I can appreciate the quirks and nuances of a classic Meriden Triumph....just like a vintage Guzzi!   There is a lot of character to love there!

Meaning that you have to wrench on the damn thing just about every time you take it for a ride. Your old Guzzi doesn't have those issues. After I bought my first Guzzi (Convert with a chair) in 1981 and started putting some miles on it, my British bikes were on their way out...

I'll agree a vintage Guzzi requires less maintenance than an old Brit lump...But....I rode a 650 Triumph years ago as a daily rider 9 months a year for 5 years and  a monthly check over seemed adequate....
 The Modified Triumph I have for sale is reliable because because all the trouble spots have been corrected... But it's still a Triumph....Amazing that many consider Triumphs to br fragile old turds but they do tolerate abuse well enough and more than a few have travelled the worst conditions that would challenge a modern dual sport..

 Between the late 1940's and 1970 Triumph had multiple wins just about every sort of racing. In Production class a Triumph was the first to lap the Isle of Man at 100 mph.
 Just like a woman, a   Triumph can be both strong and fragile....

I bought and sold more Brit bikes than I can remember and rode the heck out of 'em as daily riders. Never going back... Well, the old chopper I still have may get a rebuild this winter...
