I’m definitely gonna stay away from that new engine. A local tech had a woman customer that bought a new Pan America and the engine blew with less than 1000 miles. They will warranty but after that hmmm.

OK - Now that's insane!!  Blowing the engine in <1000 miles!!  So much for the Pan America!!

Show me this happening 15 more times in 3 years and I’ll agree with you. I don’t believe in condemning a model after a couple issues popping up. If that were the case, what model would exist to ride?

On the HD PA forum:

“Pan am motor blew
3000 miles on my special. After the 1000 mile break in dealer did the service noticed immediately after there was new tick sound on accel at 3500 to 4k. Told the dealer last week to inspect it for a knock. They gave it back a few days later said its fine. Got 850 miles into a trip yesterday and the motor siezed and i blew a rod. Engines completely ruined”

If you guys had any experience with Buell's in the early 2000's , man you would know this is not unheard of .
First one was towed back after 50kms , stopped running . Found the nut holding the cam gear had backed off
and the cam drive gear simply moved away from the cam gear , why , 'cuz there was no crank bearing installed in the case .
Second one was really noisy when hot ( around 100kms) , took the clutch cover off (hot motor) and was able to
lift the end of the crank up over .005" with my bare hands ! The best of assembly and machining screw-ups I'd seen and that
was in the same month .  Peter

The 1400 I have dropped a valve at 543 miles. New engine before I bought it. It happens to every brand, it's what makes the news. I've owned a couple of 1st year models, really nothing more tan a couple of teething issues. The new Sporty looks like a neat bike but not for me. I hope the new direction Harley is taking works for them.

I see your 485 lb. and raise you another 10.-- Bigger motor + Liquid cooling + windshield + minor amount of fairing = I don't see it being the same weight as the new V7III (taking into account the V7's extra rear shock and (assumed) slightly larger tank).

Like that Harley is going with new engine and models. Don't like the forward controls and fat front tire on this Sportster.

there is a midmounts kit but it's almost $1k IIRC and the kit to provide pillion seat is around $400 which seems like a bargain as far as HD goes.....
