New Horizons

As some know, the Army has marooned me for a year in the Midlands of South Carolina.

Being a Northeast City guy at heart and in culture, I was hesitant to move to Sumter South Carolina.

Though the quaint Southern charm of the city ehem..  town is growing on me, I have to say that just a mile from my house is the best liquor store I have ever been in to include several good ones in the Washington DC area.

I've never been in a liquor store with such a wide variety of scotch bourbon and Irish whiskeys. Of course they have all kind of other stuff but I don't drink that :-) Who knew that there was at least six different types of red breast? The only time I saw more than one type of talisker scotch was when I was actually in Scotland but this liquor store has 5 different lines.  Pick the brand and the same is true. My wife asked me last week why I haven't been buying any motorcycle or car parts recently I just nodded at the liquor cabinet and smiled. So many great options out there and though I thought I was familiar with all each week is a new discovery.

I try and buy a new bottle every pay week to expand my horizons. This week I couldn't resist and bought two.

Haven't opened the Irish whiskey yet but come on it's got to be good it comes in a green velvet bag :-) But the bourbon is fabulous.. If you haven't tried rabbit hole I strongly suggest it, especially if on sale like it was for me today. It looks like they have about seven different offerings. Is there anything else next week I'll try the rye. Let's see if it can push Michters off its perch.

Lean in to the Redbreast.  The Lustau Edition aged in sherry casks is very nice.   Being a northeast boy who went to college in the South, I really miss southern ways and charm.

I always enjoy reading/hearing people with discerning palates discuss wine, beer, whiskey, scotch, cheeses, cuts of meat, etc.

A very creative and an enjoyable social experience.

Unfortunately, my taste buds have a tough time telling Coke from Pepsi, or Coke from Diet Coke.  So giving me the good stuff is truly casting pearls before swine.

But I can tell the difference between dark beer and a pale ale, or a red wine and a white wine.....  Rose' gets confusing.

Discussions will change tone when the distillers starting labeling their whiskey or scotch 10w-60 or 20w-50.....

Funny...when I was young my family had 4 of those junkers all at 1 time!  Blue, Silver, Maroon and Green on.  I was the youngest and swore I'd never have one...well then in College my car broke down and I bought the Maroon one from my dad for a low price.  I hated that car!
