I decided to upgrade from a Shoei RF 1200 to the new RF 1400 .When shopping I came across the Shoei RF 1400 Nocturne TC-4 .After realizing that it was the red,green and white of the Italian flag .I had to have it .  Much quieter than the RF 1200 .I believe the saying that if you have a ten dollar head wear a ten dollar helmet . My head is worth much more than ten dollars .

Good looking helmet and no doubt excellent. I seem to have a head worth approx. $240.....what it was last year......HJC F70. Really nice helmet with superb visibility. Previously I had full face helmet claustrophobia. But not available in Italian flag colors.

That is what I did.. The older helmet was exactly the same as the newest model. Just not summited for lastest testing . Meaning instead of over $800 it was under $400 for the exact same Helmet.

I liked the Arai I had . The Shoei fits my head better .Years ago when I was selling helmets I used to do a side by side thermoplastic versus fiberglass composite . We'd drop a plastic helmet and it would bounce .The fiberglass helmet absorbed the impact instead of bouncing .The take away was my head in a plastic helmet would bounce . Not good .

Lots of testing and stuff on the web of fiberglass vs thermoplastic. I decided I wanted fiberglass and many companies make glass helmets, including my HJC F70.

A few years back, in late spring, I bought a Klim helmet. An extra large fit well. On a very warm day I couldn't get the helmet off; the helmet had warped nearly tight tight to my jar; exactly the same on both sides .  ~45 min. in the shade and still a bit of a struggle, I stretch it by the straps. It still raked both ears. And then winter came - same thing. The dealer, from whom I purchased, would do nothing.  Klim would not respond to email, fone calls or hard copy. There is much to like: Strap connector, chin piece, quick change tint in face shield. Sorta scary the first few times,l  There will not be another.  R3~

Seems to me that you should be in an Arai RX-7V RC Carbon. Surely your head is worth more than a few hundred bucks. How will your loved ones feel if they knew that you could have survived a crash with the Arai Carbon vs the commonplace Shoei? How can you live with yourself cheaping out like that? Oh, the guilt, the shame for not making such an obviously better choice.

 "A ten dollar helmet for a ten dollar head"  is marketing genius. I wonder how many times that phrase was uttered to steer a buyer to a more profitable helmet?

Apparently I have a an end-of-season-discounted-to $129 Bell head.

Arai's don't fit me as well as Shoei .I've had both .

Thats a nice helmet.  Im a cheapskate when it comes to helmets but maybe some day il take the plunge and buy a really nice one like mentioned here.  My brain is worth it i think.

Just because it costs more doesn't necessarily mean it's better .

This past spring I thought I would treat myself to a nice expensive helmet with great owner reviews. I bought a Shoei Neotech ll. A very noisy with some questionable quality. Iam still riding with my old Nolan. Mucho better at half the cost. I wish I could try a helmet on the road before purchase but no one allows it.

My experience with most but not all modulars is that they are noisier than a true full face .I'm glad you like your Nolan .

That's a given but I have found it to be quieter than a couple of full face helmets I have had. The quietest helmet I have ever owned was a NAVA, another Italian helmet. No longer made.

I love my AGV sportmodular. Still never tried any Arai or Shoei. Schuberth C4 was great (plus had clever communication system) but just too heavy.

A Shoei RF600 saved my many years ago.
But as I got older and their prices climbed to match college educations, I became a HJC customer. Same great fit and perfect optics in the shields.
Enough protection to satisfy me. And 1/4 the cost.

I will always think very highly of Shoei's. My old one is still being used at the MSF course at the Navy base safety center!

The top end helmets fit better from the 2-3 year mark onwards. The cheap crap just starts to rattle and shake after a couple of years.
Helmets are like shoes, you don’t realise how shocking the cheap ones are until you get a good one.

Wow. Nava. That brings back memories from when I learned to ride! My first FF helmet! Loved those things. Had two before they stopped selling them.
They were ahead of their time. It was some years later when I got my first Shoie, a RF200, that I finally found something I liked even better!

My old one fits me better then the new one.. Like a old glove..comes to min.. If the helmet does not fit in a Aria, probable did not get the correct one to start with. There are 3 or 4 head shapes, and in those some of those the head/cheek pads can be pealed away for a better fit. also complete change out of those parts are possible.

I am willing to pay for for lightness and comfort. 

My Bell Star Carbon is very light and comfortable. 

and matches the bike.
