I’ll be up in Warren tomorrow and am happy to look at it for anyone. My 61 Matchless heavy single cured me of ever wanting an old British single again.  Easy on the eyes but just rattled and rattled and rattled...

A velo doesn't rattle. It doesn't vibrate. I had a 54 MSS. I loved riding it, but that damn magneto! It would start first or second kick when it had been left standing over the winter, but I couldn't stop for a coffee or a wee on a sunny day. More often than not it wouldn't start till it had cooled down. I sold it and got a Guzzi V7ll.

I have a '61 Velo 500.  The bike looks very original except for the painted exhaust pipe and Burgess muffler.  My 500 vibrates a little, less than I expected compared to my previous singles.  As with any old pre-70's bike there is a bit of hands on needed.  Careful assembly and attention to mating surfaces results in a very interesting motorcycle.  As to the shifting most of my bikes shift down for first.  I won't bother with the mod but it would be nice.  I did install a Thorspark CDI conversion on my magneto.  I'm amazed at how well it starts warm or cold.

Very easy to flip the shift cam plate upside down.  For Triumph riders who are used to "down for 1st" shifting.

Typical of a failing coil in the magneto..
