Show us your painted Guzzi
« on: February 01, 2022, 06:25:22 AM »
Surprising to find me posting this as over the years I’ve rather preferred stock paint and such but recently - with a Cali Stone project - I’m finding myself googling a lot of different custom painted Guzzis.  And then too I recall some nicely owner painted Guzzis from the board here in the past like Kev’s white Jackal and others.  I went initially with a color I thought I’d like on the tank but then scrapped later, taking the tank back to metal.  We’ll see.  But for now, throw us up a pic of your painted Guzzi.  Might give me some ideas.   :thumb:

I searched high and low for a good color for my G5.  Ultimately I went with the stock black and white.  Now I have another set of bodywork and will probably paint them white with black. No cojones at all. Good luck with the hunt.

I’ve posted a pic of mine on a recent thread of yours.  I went with WWII OD because I had it laying around.  My ‘02 CalStone was the Sunset Orange color, which I thought was weird, but I mainly painted the bike because the paint was in such bad shape… like someone had kept it outside the entire time.  I was as careful as I could be with the prep, and rattle-canned it OD with a two-part matte clear.  I’m very pleased with the way it turned-out, and I can’t go anywhere without randos asking me about it.  Hoping to make my way down to the Lulvull area in late may for a Bourbon Trail ride with some of my new Ton-Up Club brothers down there.

A few years ago I found a NOS Guzzi fairing in Champagne, so I bought side covers and a seat cowl off fleabay and painted them to match the fairing. Also modified a Norge chin fairing to match the porkchops and frame. It can all go back to stock Black in about ten minutes.

Does someone have a pic of the Jesus bike owned by Greg Heinritz. At one time this was the most photographed Guzzi in the world.

Good choice! White looks really good on a T3. Stein Dinse has the black stripes.
This is my California (now sold).

I went with a silver frame and that was from one of Mick Walker's books that had a photo of V7 Sport with a silver frame and red tank/side panels.  Steve Ford from Parts is Parts powder coated the frame and it was his first attempt at powder coating, that was sometime back in the 1990's and it needs to be re-shot as it's showing it's age.
Obviously the other colors are stock from past and future Guzzi's.

It's hard to argue with the classic stripes. I did the same with my T3, except that I had the painter do the stripes in silver leaf.

Remember, you asked for this.

My first Guzzi was a very used 1996 1100i California that was that dark green and white but it was very dull & faded despite only being 6 years old. I had always liked the idea of being able to fix a paint job by just putting clearcoat over wet sanded passable paint. What I did end up doing was tape off the white and put a strange copper color over the dark green. The copper and white did not work real well together but it was different.

It took less than a year to get sick of the copper/white scheme, so my next idea was to give a light wet sanding to the paint job and cover it with some left over candy apple red which allowed the different shades of the copper and white to be seen through the red and fresh clearcoat. This really was a stunning paint job. It had a lot of depth to it, you could look down deep into the colors.

Because this bike was cheap enough and I had the time, I stripped off the red down to the steel about a year later. I had become smitten by the weird color on the 2000 V-11 sport with the red frame, so in a slightly failed homage to the V11 I tried to have a custom green mixed up to match that color. I failed. The color came out a bit too green but, I liked it even if nobody else did. I later did away with the red valve covers and accents. I sandblasted the flames onto the windshield to hide some scratches from a tip over accident.

My 2000 RT I made bright yellow because I could not stand the ice green metallic it was when I got it. This had to be the safest color any bike has ever been painted. Nobody could say they didn't see it coming. I was quite happy with this 12 hour paint job. From the time I took the first screw out of the bodywork, wet sand, yellow basecoat, clearcoat to cleaning out the paint gun was 12 hours. Despite the short time laying down the paint it stuck quite well and had a shinier finish than the stock BMW waterborne paint.

OK, here's my V7III Stone.  I never really liked all the flat black and dark gray so I started rattling' those cans.

My '83 SPNT after it was put back together with a smattering of different bodywork mostly sourced from Eric Phillipe and Bob Steinbugler when the owned a shop in Raliegh NC. The SP had been tipped over and then moved by forklift on the Navy pier in Norfolk VA when my ship was suddenly deployed. Fairing, tank etc were destroyed. In this picture it is wearing a LM3 fairing, CX 100 tank and, if I remember right, the seat section and chin fairing are Stucci. Loved that bike!
