Importing a bike from UK??
«

I’m considering the purchase of a bike in the UK. The price is fair, my concern is the shipping $$$
Once purchased I don’t have a lot of choice about shipping cost. I’m afraid costs will escalate and I’m at their mercy…. I’ve had rough estimates of 1000-1500. Does the sound correct ?? Any advice would be appreciated!!
Thx, dave

Is that the total cost? Does it include fees, taxes, etc.
If it helps to compare, I spent $2,700 in 2018 to import a bike from Italy. It included transportation from Rome to Genova.
IMO, it's worth it only if you must have that one bike.

Check customs requirements carefully. The bike has to be plated to state that it meets US federal safety requirements or be age exempt. I’m importing two from Canada and after much research am paying a company to handle the reporting, duty payments etc, and that’s with me driving them across the border myself. My bikes are old enough to be exempt from safety requirements. Also check your state for required documentation for titling and registration. MA requires Canadian title, bill of sale and US customs form.

I'm currently doing it in reverse importing to UK from USA,.As a data point, my new bike has been sitting in a US customs warehouse for about 5 weeks now. Apparently things are running slowly 'due to -'....
Is it a guzzi you're looking at?

You'll want to work with a Freight Forwarder. Just looking for a shipper starts a process that becomes a huge "can of worms". What about when the bike leaves the UK? Any taxes to be paid? A Freight Forwarder in the UK is your best bet since that's the origin of shipping or a U.S. firm that operates on both sides of the Atlantic. Remember that's the start of the process.
