2001 EV-fuel "pipe"

2001 EV -
Need to replace the fuel "pipe" from petcock to fuel pump. The no longer available one with the stainless-steel braid.

Anyone have a go to for a suitable replacement?

I changed mine this year, took out of sheath it said 11mm. I got 7/16 multi/biofuel and the hose said 7/16-11mm. Slid it back in sheath, put tape on end, just like factory.
Got that hose at Advance auto, Tell them you want Fuel Injection hose SAE R12- 7/16" 11mm The metal sheave come off.
You need 2 feet I think it was.

I'm guessing the braid is used for a heat sink and maybe anti chafing.
Will it be a big issue if for some reason I can't get that metal braid off and put on the new hose?

Shouldn't be a problem with out sheath, I used electrical tape for securing sheath ends.

For the sheath go to your local hardware store and buy a short hose with braid, slip that off and on to your fuel line.
The pump suction is at zero pressure so the braid is just there for looks.

The SS braiding's not required. It's 12mm (not 1/2") injector hose. People get away with 1/2" because 12mm is harder to source but 12mm works better. There's no reason it needs the external braid as its not a pressure hose and it doesn't require protecting. Scud on the V11Lemans forum did a "how to" on making up new hoses with braiding and even offered them to members if you're really desperate to have the braiding. I've been using what I suggested for 12 years on the V10/V11 without issues.

Ya I tried 1/2 on mine and it was just too big/loose. I could not find any 12mm anywhere but did find that -8AN is VARY close. I got some nylon braid -8 fuel line, and it worked perfect. They do make steel braid but it doesn't clamp well.

Kiwi_Roy - that hack for robbing the stainless off of a water heater hose (I presume) is brilliant.
I'm going to see if my Advance Auto can hook me up today with the fuel delivery hose.

Along the same lines, I need to replace the 5/16-8mm hoses.
I've seen postings about using SAE30R10. Seems like all I have in stores around here is R9.
Since it won't be submersed in fuel is R9 a good choice or is R10 needed for its robustness?

Please advise on the R10 opposed to R9 question on the 5/16-8mm hose.

If it is near the hot motor, besides the obvious danger, you can get a vapor lock condition on the vacuum side of the pump if the line gets hot.
The braided cover helps keep the heat away.

If you change out all the 5/16" it'll be 9 1/2 feet,  I used SAE R12 Green line

Brent....I just replaced the same fuel line on a '99 Bassa.  I ordered the cloth braided fuel line, 11mm I.D. and I have enough left over to do probably two more.  I have now replaced most of the fuel lines, but this particular fuel line is the only one of this size.  Therefore, if you'd pay the shipping costs, I'd be glad to send what I have to you.  Marc Morrison, Kerrville, TX

Here's a link to the How-To Phil mentioned. It's worth getting the correct 12mm ID hose. The heat shield and end caps I used are mostly for looks. In theory, it keeps the fuel cooler... but in real life there are a bunch of other non-insulated hoses in the fuel injection system.

If you're feeling generous or have some free time, you could make up several hoses and sell them. It's a terrible business... but a good deed for fellow members.

I want to thank everyone for their input, expertise and offers.
This became quite a journey when trying to find suggested parts locally.
I tried Advance Auto, AutoZone, O'Reilly's, NAPA, Yamaha dealer, Honda dealer, Off road performance shop, ...
I didn't realize there were so many varieties of fuel injection hose, and a lack of the variety locally.
I ended up with 7/16"-11mm R7 and
5/16" Gates 4219BF Barricade




guzzisteve - best I could find was 7/16"-11mm in R7 from Advance. Should be good enough for the fuel feed application. Thanks for the measurements. I could not get the old hose out of the braided sheath. So I fabricated one. For the 5/16", couldn't find any R value that you mentioned. I ended up with Gates 4219BF Barricade
Kiwi_Roy - I used your brilliant idea using a braided water heater hose from Home Depot. Difficult to remove internal water hose, but broke it loose by a bunch of bending back and forth.

s1120- I found the same thing to be true about 1/2". The performance shop sold me some 1/2" that ended up not even being compatible with fuel. Too loose anyway. I looked for some -8AN. Looked like a perfect solution. Found nothing locally.
