Givi A31 or A34 windscreen on a v7 850 special?
« on: March 27, 2022, 01:27:39 PM »
I purchased a Guzzi windscreen when I bought my v7 850 special a few weeks ago. Have put 1,000 miles on the bike on a variety of roads. The screen works fine until I go over 60 mph. At 70+ mph the wind noise (even with ear plugs) is very loud, and the buffeting is substantial. I added an X-creen to the top; it helped a bit, but not much. I do plan to use this bike for long distance touring. Though I prefer to ride on back roads and US highways rather than interstates, there are plenty of times that interstate travel is the best way to get to my destination. I want the bike to be comfortable at 75-80 mph. I admit that I'm spoiled after riding a Norge for the past 12 years.

I am considering the purchase of a Givi touring screen; had one on my departed BMW F800GT, and it worked very well. The A31 or the A34 look like reasonable candidates. Do any of you know if either screen will fit, and, if so, will it create a pocket of reasonably quiet pocket of smooth air?

Thanks,

Jon

Windscreens make for tough shopping sometimes.  I'd imagine either would fit, Givi handlebar mounting systems seem to provide lots of leeway.  Nice price at Tour and Ride, with free shipping:

Good luck, and keep us posted.

I have the Givi A603 windscreen on my Triumph T120.  It is reasonably quiet and provides good wind protection.  It is sturdy and well made.

However, with the two-point mounting system, the screen gets a little jiggley around the lower headlight wings at elevated speeds i.e. 140KPH +.

WRT the buffeting from the OP's screen - try raising the screen to give about an inch clearance over the headlight.
This will allow air behind the screen and help to reduce any buffeting caused by the vacuum generated by the passage of the screen thru the air.

Cheers!

Have used the A34 on my 2016 Stone II with good results. Four point mounting is a must for me as I occasionally use the interstates at speed.

I know that the original question was about Givi windscreens,
but has anyone checked into the generic offerings from National Cycle ?

Here's a National Cycle "Deflector" 4-point mount on a 2017 V7 III

I have an A34 on my V7III Special. Works for me, but I'm short and it may not work so well for a tall(er) person--but this is true of windscreens in general, i.e., ymmv.

Also, the 4-point mounting system is solid, but it's a bit tedious to get everything back in alignment if you take the screen off to clean it.

Jon,

I use the A34 on my V7 850 and its ok for me at 75-80 mph.  I'm 5' 10" with a 30" inseam and the wind is just over the top of my helmet. No wind on my chest but some on my arms. You can with the four point mounting system move the windshield up or down a bit and change the angle. The windshield is not perfect but good enough that I have not seen the need to replace it. The A31 should fit as well.

BTW: If you have the low speed engine "hiccup" which I am betting you do there is a easy fix for that. It involves plugging the line out of the carbon canister into the throttle body. Check the ADV Rider site for V7 850 thread. It has some nice pics showing the fix.

I have the Givi 140A  on my 2021 V7 Stone.

Fits good, no buffeting but wind noise is not good.  If I stand on my pegs about 3 inches things get quieter.

May go with a lower screen like the OEM.

I ran an A31 on my Mille GT and a BMW R65, it worked great and looked good. It is a bit tedious getting it set up with 4 mounting points, trying to visualize a 3D image while installing it. Get a helper to stand about 10 feet away to judge your positioning!

stonelover and Rich A,

are you using the D45 fit kit with the A34 windscreen?

kballowe,

How well does the deflector screen work at interstate speed?

Jon

It works decent.  I'm 5'9" and a 29" inseam
