loose screw almost caused crash

TLDR: screw came loose around instrument panel, dropped into steering limiter, I almost crashed

Please help me identify this screw from my Breva 750. I was riding on a washboard dirt road when I lost control and almost crashed trying to make a slow right turn. This screw had apparently come loose from around the instrument cluster area and dropped into the left side of the bottom triple clamp, limiting right steering lock.

Don't know about the Breva, but it resembles one of the screws that holds the ignition switch on my EV.

Looks like an ignition switch/lock cylinder shear screw (top shears off when tightened to prevent easy removal/theft). But I've had them fall out on a Guzzi too - on a Cali Jackal once.

It was the screw holding the ignition key barrel to the top triple. Thanks for the help.

What’s the correct way to remove those screws?  I need to remove the ignition from my SPIII, and am thinking of drilling the ends of the bolts (not the conical heads) for an ez out.

In the car world and more specific Honda/ Toyota 80's to 2000's we used a punch  or a small chisel and a ball peen hammer to back the twist-off screws and remove ignition lock barrels from steering columns when they were in the shop for stolen/ recovery work

I believe this is the second time on this forum I've read about an ignition switch screw falling out and jamming the steering head.

Certainly looks like a shear bolt,  and for it to come out means that it wasn't adequately tight before it sheared when installed

Given that these are likely the same on all the bikes I think I'll have a little furtle at those on my V9

Before drilling check to see how tight they are. Did mine a few years ago on an older EV when going over all the wiring. Used a long needle nose pliers and was surprised they started to twist out so easy.
Since some are falling out on their own you may find yours loose too.
