IMPORTANT April Meet n greet lunch
« on: April 15, 2022, 01:56:13 PM »
I won’t be at the meet n greet lunch as I broke down outside of tellico plains.  I made it to the campground but shouldn’t be riding a lot other than back to home on Sunday.  The shifting lever mounting bolt sheered off in half leaving half of the bolt in the threads yet.  I’m limping around (to get here last ten miles) in third gear and will try to make it home Sunday.

If anybody goes to lunch have a Diet Coke for me.  Sorry I can’t make it.

Is the shift lever still attached or did it fall off?

Note to self don’t sit next to Bob in a thunderstorm.

Hopefully you can make it home without any further trouble.

UPDATE.  We got the sheared off bolt removed using a bolt extraction kit from harbor freight.  Then we removed the rear brake lever bolt and put it on the shift lever side so the bike will shift.  We then used a standard metric bolt on the brake lever to where it is useable.  Not perfect…but useable.  So I WILL be at the monthly guzzi lunch with another Guzzi rider who’s here named Kyle.  I ordered two more of the specialty bolts from harpers Moto guzzi.  One to put on the rear brake lever and one extra because this is definitely a design flaw!  I should get home ok on Sunday!!!

Glad to hear you got it fixed Bob. Wayne at Cherohala Mtn Campground is usually a lot of help and has tools etc.

Looks like I'm gonna miss you by a day. My Grandson and I are coming in on Monday (in the Jeep) to do a week of riding around on the SM500.

Catch you sometime perhaps.

Rained pretty long last night but a nice morning today at camp in Tellico Plains, Tn.  Shifting lever hasn’t broke off yet so life is good!

Weather's clearing here rapidly.  Think I'll suit up and ride over to Tellico and join you for lunch.

So how did you like the campground? It and TWOS are my favorite campgrounds. Mostly because the owners are nice and the interesting bikers you meet.

Who's that old man with the grey hair and cap standing next to my bike!?? His shirt tail is untucked, he looks pretty decrepit.  Oh, wait, never mind.

It’s nice but TWOS is my favorite!

Back to the original topic, is there something peculiar about the shifter bolt that precludes getting a replacement from a good nut and bolt store?

For example, I bought a bag of SS socket head screws my Mille GT engine sump at Fastenal.

Yes this boat and sleeve etc with o-rings and washers is peculiar and hard to explain.  When the new ones come from harpers Il take some pics and post them on here.

Here’s a close up of the broken shift lever bolt.  About a 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the threaded portion was snapped off inside the frame piece.
