Future of the Virginia Rally
« on: July 30, 2022, 09:49:30 AM »

Guzzisti, Its been nearly a month & I've received no responses to this message I posted to my email list of Va Riders. I'm reposting here, reaching out to any & all Va riders who may not have heard the word.

 Va. Guzzisti,
The 39th Va. Moto Guzzi Rally is in the books. The numbers: 107 in attendance.  Riders from 18 States, including California, Florida, & Connecticut.  There were 31 from our home state of Virginia, I hope you were one of them. If not you missed one of the best, wonderful weather, good food, &  of course, great Guzzi  friends new & old.
Huge thanks to Bob & Joan Corefield & all the folks whos efforts helped to pull it off. Bob announced, however that the 39th is his last as Rally-Master.
So, if the tradition is to continue, someone new has to step up & take over the task.  The decision cannot be put off for an extended period because desirable weekends at potential sites get booked up well in advance. That being said, some thoughts on the rally. Alice & I took over the rally master job in 1998 & continued with a traditional "full" rally, 2 meals, awards, door prizes, T-shirts, rally gift etc. etc. After we'd done it 9 years,  Roger & Marylin Davis carried on, followed by Kurt & Sue Nordstrom, & finally Bob & Joan.  If a new Rally Master steps up, there is no reason why all the "bells & whistles" need to be continued. He/She will have a free hand to make any changes they see fit. A different date, location, or style, anything from the traditional full rally to a simple "do your own thing" campout, so long as there's a 50/50 or some other means of generating enough income to maintain the "seed money" for future rallies.
Important note about money, the rally has always been self supporting.  Several times we've had poor turn-out due to hurricanes sweeping up from the South on rally weekends, and of course the Derecho  hitting Friday night of our National in 2012. Each time, the rally bank account rebounded w/in a year or two. To my knowledge no rally master has ever lost a penny out-of-pocket on the rally. All it costs is time & effort.
Please think about it, contact me w/any questions you may have.
Thanks,
Ron

I made it last year and it was one of the best I have ever attended.  I hope someone steps up.  In my state of KY, we got some young blood to take over so we are good for a while.  Of course we would all love to see Guzzi friends new and old in Frankfort at the end of Sept. for the rally.
