Plaudits for TX drivers license dept.
« on: August 27, 2022, 11:36:11 AM »
Most reports for these groups are less than complimentary; however my recent experience was quite good. My eyesight issues complicated my renewal and I had to get a report from my eye Dr. and a drivers test. The staff and examiner could not have been more professional and helpful, even called the clinic to explain the form and what was needed. After passing the test the examiner said "be careful on that motorcycle". The requirements for those with one eye are a bit bizarre in my view, but that does not detract from the excellent staff experience.

I am vary lucky that even how BAD NY DMV can be, my local office is just wonderful. Every one is kind and helpful. They work with you to fix issues with paperwork, and just all around makes your trip much more enjoyable.

When we moved from SoCal to rural TX 4 years ago, the DMV and DPS experience proved to be very enjoyable, compared with California.  Since we had a current driver license from another state, the Texas written test was waived.  We needed an eye test, a birth certificate and registrations for all vehicles we owned with proof of Texas insurance for each.  That's it.

On renewal of registrations, we could do that by mail, but the ladies at the Burnet County TX Assessor-Appraiser Office are so nice (and there is NEVER a line) that I always go in person just to remind them what a difference Texas makes.

:thumb:  Good to hear.  Having a been a MVD Agent and Inspector.  Most frustrations are taken out on the people employed to work with them.  Transplants from other states that aren't realistic forget the the clerks that are processing their paperwork are people too.  Doing your homework before going in person is tantamount for success.

I just did a renewal on my Cal1400 Touring by their website.  I'm in Hawaii and the bike is in PHX.  Locally I  can do renewals/change of titles via their drop boxes.  Avoid any lines but it helps to check the website for information first.    :thumb:
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.
