V7 Windshield for Winter?
« on: August 29, 2022, 10:41:31 AM »
Now that the sidecar is firmly attached to the V7, I can continue forth with my plans for winter riding here in New Hampshire. But, I’ll need a windshield that covers better than my previous screens. I’ve tried a couple mid-size Givi Universal windshields, and while my latest one, the A603 (for sale) provided solid enough protection to the chest and didn’t cause buffeting, I’ll be looking for more coverage to the head.

My current candidates are the MRA VNB, which happens to be what Ural throws onto their Geo LE model variant:

and a National Cycle PlexiStar 2:

Looks take a backseat when it comes to serious temperature drop. Note that I have handlebar muffs to protect the grips, but I do struggle to keep those digits warm, even with heated grips involved.

Any experienced reviews and thoughts are much appreciated.

Heck, I might even consider a Ural factory windshield.

And for the love of peas, if anyone even mentions a Dart…

Hello from across the river.  I had Clearview make me a windscreen that bolts up to the OEM Guzzi mounts.  They would only go 18" above the headlight.  I'm about 6' tall and I think another 2" in screen height would have been perfect.  Short of swapping it out for a 20" tall screen, I may try their fork mounted lowers to see if it cuts down on the wind a bit.  When I used lowers on my Cali Touring it helped dramatically.  HTH.

My 2016 Stone came with the PlexiStar 2. I removed it and gave it back to the previous owner. It did a great job of blocking the wind. So good that I removed it, BUT I'm not planning on riding through a New Hampshire winter. The 2 will block the wind very well

My 2014 Stone came with the National Cycle Street Shield EX.  I can confirm it does an excellent job of blocking wind, is easy to clean, and can be removed/re-installed in about 1 minute.  I can't find the dimensions of the Plexistar you are looking at on their website to compare the height of it vs the Street Shield Ex.  The Street Shield Ex measures in at 19" high.  But by the photos it appears the Plexistar will provide superior hand coverage.

I had a  National Cycle Street Shield EX on the shelf and tried it out on my V7.
The EX made wind worse. Wind over the top at face level. Wind coming from underneath was enough to lift my glasses.
Adjusted for different angles did not help. Added 2 inches on top to get the the wind above my eyes. Wind from below swept up through the vacuum.
So it is back on the shelf. I think this is the fourth motor cycle I have tried it on and failed.

Full faced helmet riding was acceptable. The EX does reduce wind pressure on torso, but I doubt the EX would keep you any warmer than no shield at all because of the volume of air sweeping up the body.

If you buy the Plexstar be sure to give us a review.
