How to use the new two-stud kickstand bracket
« on: October 22, 2022, 09:29:31 PM »
MG Cycle and Stein-Dinse now offer a new two-stud bracket for the mid-mount side stand used on various Tonti models, which is also suitable for retrofitting others like my T3. Neither the vendors nor anyone comenting on it so far seem to understand how to use the two studs. I just installed the bracket on my T3 and now offer the solution.

Along with the bracket I bought two smallblock kickstand springs. As I suggested in an earlier thread, I attached one spring to the front stud and the other to the back. It works as I hoped. The kickstand stays extended instead of retracting automatically, but will also stay retracted when you kick it back up.

The kickstand and the center stand do not interfere with each other since I bent the center stand tang back.  You can put the kickstand down before using the center stand, or leave it up.

It is still a bit hard to reach the kickstand since the foot peg is in the way. But the kickstand is infinitely easier to use since it doesn't keep snapping back up. Infinitely may be an exaggeration.

Hope this helps someone.

P.S. the bracket I got from mg cycle is the one first mentioned by Charlie: https://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=73&products_id=5093 . Though I bought it on Tuesday and got it on Thursday it is again listed as out of stock.

The two springs were these: https://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=73&products_id=880 .  These are also out of stock tonight.

To repeat, you have to use one spring on each stud to make it work. I asked mg cycle about this, and Andrew said they had no knowledge. The Stein-Dinse site  also shows no understanding of how the new bracket works.

I appreciate this post following up with your final results. I too have installed the mid mount but ended up using an old slightly modified 850T side stand with the single spring and have acceptable results although the stand will still try to self-retract, just not as aggressively as with the two springs and plate arrangement.
Since I have another stock two spring stand that is not currently being used, I may pick up a couple of springs when they are back in stock and give this set up a try.

Thanks!
