What ever happened to the Winter moto shows??
« on: January 06, 2023, 04:16:48 PM »
Back 20 years ago when I lived in the Baltimore DC area there was a huge three day show in February. All the major brands had displays and many clubs had displays also. Lots of vendors with gear to suit any riding style. The venues where usually packed with bikers of every stripe. It was always something to look forward to fend off cabin fever. Google isn't coming up with anything northeast of Florida. Sure would be nice to have an event up here in New England.

I'm near St Louis, and the shows are sparse in this area.  They used to have some HUGE shows, but not any more.

Kansas City had a big one every winter too. I have a feeling I know why, but the subject is verboten here. But I don't wanna talk about it anyway!

There's one in Timonium (northern Baltimore suburb) MD in mid-February 2023 (www.bikeweekevents. com/motorcycle-events/Timonium-motorcycle-show).  Not as big lately has it has been in the past, but a respectable size & worth the trip if it's not too far from you.  It used to be dominated by Harleys, but the last couple of shows actually have had a respectable classic/antique bike presence, if you're into that.  Our Norton club usually puts on a display of Nortons & other oddball bikes owned by members (including my Eldorado 850 & a nice older Ducati last year), but I don't know if we will be there this year.  We're pretty laid back & loose - final decisions tend to be postponed until the issues approach critical mass.  The local/regional Japanese classic motorcycle owners have had a good display of interesting bikes the past couple of shows.

Easy to get to & parking is plentiful.  FYI - I have no interest/connection to the show other than as an occasional exhibitor.

The IMS (International Motorcycle Shows) cancelled last year after a 40 year run.  It was a combination of many factors not the least of which is the manufacturers are finding other ways (digital/online) and singular events (their own)  to announce/present their new offerings.  The cost for the spaces had become quite high as well with overall attendance declining over the last 5 years or longer.  I used to go the the NAIAS in Detroit every year as a way to break up the winter and reconnect with a few friends. It used to be spectacular with concept cars and the all the manufacturers bringing their latest and greatest.  The displays were elaborate.  Ford actually had built a theater so they show mini movies of their finest.  It really was quite grand.  Over the last ten years the high end European marks starting dropping out one by one.  Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, then Porsche & BMW and on and on.  The last few years became more of a truck and van show with the Chinese starting to show their wares.  The fun was gone. Manufacturers also used to release their new offerings at the same time of the year.  Now, each manufacturer releases when they are ready so product is sprinkled out across the year.  EICMA still seems like a major show but when you read or watch reports regarding the event, many lament it "ain't what it used to be."   Regarding bikes, it seems to an older fellow like me, that sports bikes just aren't really a major force anymore.  The state of road racing in America is a shadow of it's former self with very little if any direct factory involvement, so the big manufacturer money has left town.  Thus a lot of excitement brought by young buyers for the latest missile had dried up.  I won't bore you with the aging demographics and it's effect on HD.  We all know.  So, it all has an effect.  The times, they be a changing, and have been for quite some time actually.   Now, who wants to talk about side by sides and quads?  That's where the action is. :violent1:

No info on what your looking for. But a similar issue.

In So Cal there used to be a big fishing and some hunting show. Everybody would look forward to it. Then you know what hit. Then it was going to happen again. But it didn't and may be cancelled forever. I read booth prices tripled and deposits from the cancelled year were not refunded or transferred to the new event. Go figure, guess the promoter got greedy.

Hope you find a good show to break the boredom!!!!

Unless something has changed, it looks like the Toronto show is still on mid February. that's the nearest one in the NE that I'm aware of. I went to this show the year before -. Pretty good show.
