Convert seat rail mounting question

Hello folks, I  have found a chrome  seat rail for my Convert, the one that wraps around the rear of the seat. For some reason, I thought the rail mounted to the frame, where the plastic tail light shroud mounts, but on more careful inspection, I see, thats not the case.There are 4 holes drilled into the underside of the seat pan. Those holes are not threaded, so my question is what fasteners are used to mount it to the seat?  I imagine it must be some type of sheet metal screws, or self tapper types ?  I thought I could always take the cover off the seat,and weld some nuts to the inside of the pan, but I am curious, how did Guzzi do it originally?

Screws don't seem to hold very well, so I usually pop rivet mine into place.

Thats a great idea, Charlie, but You must use some huge pop rivets.  The biggest diameter pop rivets I have are 1/4" diameter.  I wonder if those would work....Unless I remove the cover from the seat, and place some washers inside the pan, for the pop rivet to hold.

I am not familiar with riv nuts. Will have to research it.

I insall them using an Allen screw and a strap of metal with an appropiare sized hole using a star washer between the rivnut and strap and a flat washer between the bolt and strap. I bend a couple of angles in the strap for hand clearance. Been doing this way for years as the rivnut tools seem to be worse than useless and unable to set the sizes I use most frequently with a squeeze tool. Oh yeah my tool is much cheaper than theirs as well! I do lube the bolt I use with 90w gear oil for longevity and I never use stainless for an installation tool, mild steel only.
