Stornello shocks
« on: May 20, 2018, 09:27:14 AM »
A bud is looking at a used Stornello and I could not find the info during a brief look around the web. Are stock Stornello shocks any better than the garbage (sorry I had a 2013 V-7 Special so I know first-hand) they put on standard V-7s?

Try doing a search on "Stornello shocks". That said I recall reviews that say they're not bad, just not good. Would probably benefit from Hagon Trail shocks or something similar. Not a whole lot you can do with a dual-shock setup.

The Internet is your friend.  AF1 Racing has a parts list for most Guzzi models.  You will find that the part number for the Stornello shock is the same as that of the 2013 V7.

They are the same as the standard V7II. Options include the Hagons, Bitubo, Ohlin and RaceTech (spec'd by GuzziTech). I went with the latter and got them with 20mm more throw as the stock is rather short. There are more options, as well.

For the front it appears the damping is too stiff for most folks. You can replace with cartridges, emulators or can try drilling out the damping plate holes to get more fluid flow, or reduce viscosity. You can also get springs for your weight, preload adjusters, etc.

Lot's of options to make it better!

As a Stornello Owner,

They have the stock shocks of any V7 II. Right now Moto Guzzi is having a sale on the Bitubos that come on the V7 Racer models. $600 per pair for a $1,000+ set of shocks. I plan on ordering some if he wants to get in on it I'll ship him a set from Flying Tiger if he calls me.

Can you provide a link showing these shocks on sale for $600.  I can't find it on the Moto Guzzi site.  Thanks!  BTW, I'm a Stornello owner too!

That last post was from 4.5 years ago.

I owned a Stornello where the previous owner had installed Hagon Enduro shocks, they were really great.  To find them, best to do some googling and may be best to contact Hagon in the UK directly.  At one time there was an excellent US importer, but I don't think he is in business any more (or not working with Hagon any more? not sure)

Those shocks seem to be the best value to performance shock around.

NO.... I don't know if they were the same as other 2016's, but thy were The worst I have ever experienced, and made the Stornello all but unrideable for me.

Icon and Hagon make reasonably priced replacements, I went with Hagon dual spring trail units and have been very happy the last 8k miles.

Wow, I posted four and a half years ago. Time flies.

Still love the Stornello. It now has 30K on it. The Racetech shocks are holding up great. The OEM front is worse than the OEM rear IMO. I went with the Racetech gold emulators after trying many others. They seem to be the best short of cartridges.
