V7 II steering head bearing
« on: February 12, 2023, 01:56:40 PM »
This has probably been asked here before but here goes . Are the steering head bearings sealed , or can they be repacked on a 2016 V7 II ? The parts catalog shows them . But the resolution could be better . Or my magnifying glass is inadequate for my old eyes . Thanks in advance for any help .

Wasn’t sure myself, so I just did a search. If you Google the part number, you will find that it has been used on many models in the past. Looks unsealed—Here’s a link with a pic:

Yup , they are serviceable, there is a rubber & metal seal top & bottom to keep swarf out . They seem to be working ok . I’ll still use my needle greaser to put a bit more in there particularly between the rollers . Hanging the handlebar assembly from the ceiling w/rope allowed me to not disturb any wiring or cables A bit fiddly but not a bad job . Good for another 25k Mi. At least . As I haven’t had a bike with a conventional steering head in 20+ Yrs. That skill set was a bit rusty . Job done !
