Pull-up Resistor questions on V7
« on: April 11, 2023, 04:01:45 PM »
I have a 2013 V7 Special.  I had a short a couple of years ago that you guys helped me diagnose.  I didn't ever figure out exactly what was shorting but, you helped me figure out how to know if it was shorting or not.  At that time, I moved some wires around under the tank and the short went away.   I couldn't get it to come back.  So,  I started riding again and did so for over a year before the symptoms came back.  The E fuse blows.  The neutral indicator and clutch switch are good.  It seems that the short is in the Pull-Up Resistor.  Has anyone had one go bad before?  The bike will run if I unplug it.  But, I don't want to damage the ECU, or anything else.  Is that a possibility if I ride it without the Pull-Up Resistor.  It may take a couple of months to get one in and the weather is getting warm again.  Please let me know what I am putting at risk if I ride without the Resistor.  Or, if you have other thoughts/questions.  Thank you for your help!

I found a little more information.   I took the heat shrink off the part and it looks like a small diode and a larger resistor.  It looks like the diode is 1N4007.  I can't read the numbers on the resistor.  It's black so, I'm not sure what color it would be.  I did see the part number (887948) available for a Norge on eBay and the colors look like Red, Red, Brown, Yellow.  But, it's hard to tell from the picture.  And, I'm not sure if the V7 would be the same.

I do not want to pay the 70ish dollars for a new piece if I can replace just the resistor and diode for a few dollars. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to look at their part and see if you can read the information on the resistor or measure it. If you cannot read it and have to measure it you would need to take off the heat shrink.

I think it would be great to have the information for the pull-up module on the forum so no one has to shell out 20x what it costs to make the part.
