dead tach
« on: April 15, 2023, 10:08:27 AM »

Guzzisti,
The tachometer on my '17 V7III Special went belly-up some time ago. A new one was quoted at $500.00......YIKES! So I'm looking for a used one that is still working, anyone know of a '17 or '18 V7III being parted out? As far as I know those are the only years this tach was used, the one used on earlier models is different. The tach is wired oddly, there is a line to it that's hot all the time, key on or off. When I install a replacement I intend to put a toggle switch in that line so I can shut off the juice to the tach except when the bike is running. Hopefully that will prolong the life of whatever electrical component failed inside the tach.
Thanks,
Ronkom

Looking at https://www.parts-motoguzzi.com/moto-guzzi-motorcycles/750-MOTO-GUZZI-MOTORCYCLES/V7/2017/V7-III-Special-e4/Lights--Instruments/Instruments/449/33/1312007022/1101 , at least one gauge and the gauge housing appear to be used all across the V7 III range AND the newer E5 models.

Call Mark at Guzzi Classics in CA, he was parting those for his custom bikes, just an idea.

Sure about that? I thought he only had a bunch of V7 II models.

Yes, Marl only has V7 II, and Ron has already talked to Mark IIRC.

A few years ago, my tach on my '98 Centauro "died"...and I HATE instruments on any vehicle that don't work.

I was fortunate to buy a new OEM one from a fellow Guzzisti on this forum, and had the other one repaired by a Veglia Borletti expert (Peter?) in the UK.

I believe the repair cost was like $275...but now, if the one I have on there dies, I have a back-up ready to go...
