SPII Front Master
« on: May 01, 2023, 02:17:04 PM »
Started a leak from the front master cylinder on my '87 SPII.  Has the older version integral with perch, throttle, and switchgear.
Seems that replacement or rebuild are each no longer available.
Has anyone come up with a quick solution?

I assume you're taking about the trapezoidal shaped reservoir setup like what was on the LMIV's.  No, I haven't had any luck in finding nos pump rebuild kit, reservoir diaphragm & oring....maybe check out this thread.

Should you consider that route... I had good work done and experience with Apple on some oddball Girling stuff.  But it may take a phone call.

I have a used one off my SPII when I changed to BMW switchgear if you want it. Lately I have been sending them to White Post Restorations and have them brass sleeved.

Motogiovane.it has the rebuild kit... comprising just the seals, not the piston. You'd need to fashion some kind of cone-shaped "ramp" to get the seal onto the piston without damage... one per seal, one per end of the piston, seems to me...

Price has gone up by 5 Euro's... Now 45 Euro's...

Strange: I pasted-in the motogiovane link, and a retzmoto link appeared...? And the pix shows the piston, complete, but it also shows "out of stock"...???

This is only a bit peripheral, but can folks weigh-in re the notion of sleeving to brass versus sleeving to stainless steel? Seems to me brass is softer, of course. Would it not be prone to wear issues? Also, brass is more corrosion prone, duh, than stainless steel. Having said the above, some companies that restore bores for brake system hydraulics swear by brass as being superior...
