It is if the base circles on your cam lobes are round.

When the intake valve opens then closes you are on the right stroke coming up w/compression. I don't get what is so difficult. You have the cover off, it's just as easy to put on TDC on correct stroke. You do both at same time adjusting. What is so difficult.

The "tell" is that if you can't get a feeler gauge in at TDC, go another 360.

Once you find TDC, mark the rotor on the alternator, when it come up at noon (or midnight, you're good).   Then the other side will be at 3 9 or 3 o'clock depending in which cylinder you made noon.

mine is noon and 3 am.

I always appreciate advice especially when it involves working smarter instead of harder but I think I'll stick with the method I've been using because it hasn't caused me any problems.  I told the same thing to the guy that insisted I should adjust my valves while the engine running....I shoulda asked him to show me how he accomplishes a shim change.  And, does valve overlap come into play with these engines? idk...

That method does work on our Guzzis. I have used it on my Ural to adjust the valves. and tried it on my Guzzi round head,one day when I was bored, then compared the adjustment  by using the conventional TDC method looking at the flywheel marks, etc. The valve lash was exactly the same in both cases. This was on my 73 eldorado.

For those that have done valve adjustments and are comfortable with the process, this method is fine, but if.you aren't sure with your ability, the factory method is best. There are some instances I can think of where it could be messed up on some motors.

LowRyter’s method is correct, but only during Daylight Savings Time.  Otherwise you can bend your valves.

What Pressure angle said . Many Mfg. Don’t precision grind the heal of the cam lobe .plus once @ tdc. Ya can do 2 valves . On newer motors without access to flywheel and such I use a coffee stirrer through the plug hole to find tic.
