'03 EV Adjustable Forks Help Please
« on: June 29, 2023, 03:51:16 PM »
I decided that it was time to look at the forks on the EV since I have a leaking seal and neither adjuster can be moved. I have never been in a fork before and have questions. Answers to these questions may seem obvious to most of you and that is why I ask.
It is a cartridge system, right? Is there an obvious upgrade that I should consider. I don't ride it harder than necessary.
There is no drain plug? I have to remove the fork and dump the old fluid out? Replace with 10, 15, or 20?
From the saddle, the left side is compression and the right side is extension? Is there any difference in how they get disassembled and reassembled?
Is there some type of locking device on the adjusters? Is it the little 2mm allen screw on the nut? The internals of the adjuster look like plastic. Am I going to bust it if I force it?
How does the adjustment work? I don't see any moving parts in the cap other than the adjuster (if it moves).
Any help is greatly appreciated

Hamlin Cycles rebuilds those style forks every week.  Folks from all over send them in to get serviced.  Jim knows every trick in the book to get them fantastic.
I've assisted him many times at his shop.  He knows more about those than the guys who built them.

They get jacked up if someone turns knob too far, you may not have a drain screw. My 98 is fine w/15wt

Thanks for the tip,King.
Steve - definitely jacked up. Can they be repaired? The whole cap replaced?
I can't see what they do since, to the eye, nothing moves but the knob.

It's not the cap, knob screws on to a rod that goes down inside cartridge. There is a Matrix kit for them, look at GT store. NOT cheap.

That makes sense, thanks. I appreciate you taking the time to help.
Yeah, that Matris stuff is way beyond my financial capabilities. I can dream.
