2001 Jackal Rear Drive Leak
« on: June 22, 2023, 10:13:27 AM »
After some helpful advice from rodekyll last month I finally got around to removing the pumpkin.

A couple of questions:

How does this pumpkin look overall?

Is the driveshaft supposed to come out with the pumpkin?

It looksl to me like the big seal is leaking. The blue one. I recommend replacing with a Viton seal, which is more heat resistant, those are usually brown in color. The replacement of this seal is very easy.

Before you clean it, look past the big seal and you can see if the inner seal is leaking. A much bigger job than the larger outer seal because the box has to be disassembled. Thar be dragons in there…

Looks dry and shiny inside as far as I can see.

Can't believe I bought a Guzzi.

I agree, ordered the big viton seal from MGCycle just 30 minutes ago.

One way to tell if inside is leaking, there will be oil on the axle & coming out the hole for it. If that passage is dry it's good.
