Breva, or Breva Sport
« on: August 22, 2023, 08:12:59 PM »
How can you tell if a Breva, is the Sport model, or the regular Breva. Here are photos of one that I’m interested in.

Seller says Breva Sport.

Is it?

In my very humble opinion, I'd say that is a Breva, not a 1200 Sport.  The 1200 Sport has a white dashboard background, not black like the Norge and Breva.  It also has a small fairing/cowl over the headlight, whereas I don't think that the Breva came with one standard.

Y'ep.  First thing I looked for was the sport fairing.

The Breva in question does have the 1200 sport front forks which are much better than the stock forks. It also has traditional handlebars instead of the stock cast ones.

If memory serves the Breva 1100 are 2-valve, have titanium valve covers, cast handlebars and lower spec suspension. 1200 Sports are 4-valve (flat tappet issues?) have tube bars and came with matching fairing/seat cowl.

No 4 valve head in the states for the 1200 sport.

I remember wanting the Sport when I saw one in a showroom back then.

I like to think I'm an expert on these models, at least on how they look.

The bike your looking at is a modified Breva 1100.
There is a 1200 Breva that was released in some markets, but not  the US.  It was a standard Breva, but with the 1200 2v motor.

It appears that this Breva 1100, has 1200 sport upgraded forks, 1200 sport Mirrors, and sport handle bars.  It also has the valve covers from the 2v Griso, that were used on the 1200 Sport, in the US.   1200 Sports in the US market (despite what the pic above shows all came with pedal rotors, the Breva had standard round rotors).   The CARC on this bike has either been bead blasted to remove the paint, or it is a CARC taken off a 1200 Sport.   I don't know if the gearing is the same between the two models.

Lastly, it has standard Breva 1100 body work.

The 1200 Sport in the US was one year only, I believe it was 2008.

Thanks guys. I thought that it is a Breva 1100.
It’s advertised as a Sport.

It's not a Sport, but it's got a lot of the goodies from a sport.  Wish mine those.

Breva Sport was: (at least CONUS)

1. A 1200 4V cc motor
2. White faced gauges (Breva had black)
3. Special Cowl on handlebars and seat with white flash
4. Says 1200 Sport
5. Better Forks and suspension
6. twin plate clutch (believe Breva had single plate)
7. Standard handlebars (Breva 100 had a kind of riser for handle bar on each side, 1200 Sport had a traditional bar)

That's a plain Breva 1100, but the valve covers look like a Griso 1100 or 1200 Sport, and maybe ther forks from a 1200 Sport too. However, if it has Guzzitech parts it is automatically a sport!  :violent1:  :violent1:   I kid I kid.  It may have some upgrades to make it more sporty, but it is a standard Breval and in the end, this is a great platform all around. Decent ergos, handling, power, etc. BNS's rule!

Thanks Bulldog. I do like the Breva platform, but if I buy one, it will need to be a Sport. Black, red, color isn’t important.

The larger headers indicate Sport don’t they ?
Also the colours don’t match at the rear body/sidecover join. Has the bike been built up from parts post crash?
Take a rocker cover off and have a look how many valves.

Here's another take on it, from my ownership experience:

1100 Breva's sell for bargain prices (that can be good or bad, depending upon whether you're buying or selling). 1200 Sports retain much better value.

1200 Sport had a horrible handlebar. You had to be a gorilla to ride one, which is why many have been altered with Aprilia Mana bars. In fact, they received such poor response on the showroom floor as a result...that's one of the reasons that it was a one-year-only bike. 1100 Breva's had nice, comfortable cast risers.

If an 1100 Breva has hard bags, they're usually the black, triangular Aprilia units. 1200 Sports are routinely fitted with color-matched (red of black) Norge bags.

Don't consider buying a 1200 Sport if it doesn't have its bikini fairing and rear seat cowl.

This 1200 Sport is on FB Marketplace.  It looks very nice.  I just asked the owner if he has the rear cowl and seat.  He does.

This one looks very nice, with lot$ of extras. The Sports seem to hold their value, better than a  standard Breva.

Love seeing the prices of the 1200 Sport and Griso creeping up.  Both are higher than when I bought them.............. Who said a Guzzi isn't an investment

I'd ask the owner if he also has the HB racks for the bike. Looks gnarly without the bags on, but that's why I have a completely naked Griso.  The 1200 Sport has side and top case and is my ST go to. Griso is the day tripper.  I imagine both will be for sale in the next 5 years or so, and I will end up stuck in 4 wheel contraptions, but my Chocolate and Vanilla German Girlfriends will make it worth my while.

I just hope I can do my Trans Continental trip before the vestibular nonsense grounds me permanently from 2 wheels.
